Just to give some background:

They're saying they're clearing the square to clean it up for a few hours. Theres a Barcelona FC final tomorrow and following victories that square is usually filled with drunk, violent, right wing hooligans. Meaning they're trying to clear glass bottles and shit because theres gonna be a huge confrontation between protesters and right wing fucktards if Barcelona wins tomorrow.

(In other words this might NOT be direct political suppression). Doesn't mean the protests around Spain won't treat it like that though.

That said, the amount of violence being used by the Catalan police to clear the square is fucking appalling and I can't believe there hasn't been rioting yet. I'd be hurling bricks at those fucking donut grazers.

Lots of gung-ho armchair revolutionary stuff in this thread which isn't necessarily helpful.

Obviously these fucking Fascist scum are the lowest of the low, and protesters have a basic moral right to defend themselves. But the protests would never have attained such numbers of ordinary people if they'd been confrontational and violent from the get-go. The cops will always be better armed, better trained and more vicious than the citizenry, but there will always be more of us. The way to break their power is with sheer force of numbers, showing them we're not afraid.
