So how exactly did this work? Was it free to use or did they use some other system? I just saw this photo and it made me curious.

The movie "Libertarias" about anarchist spain says nobody paid for the train ("The tramway belongs to everyone")
But other than that, I don't have any sources...

There was a flat fare throughout the metro area. Previously there had been zone fares and people who lived in the outer neighborhoods and suburbs...which were often working class areas...had to pay more to travel into the city center. So the workers instituted the flat fare in the interests of fairness.
The worker-managed transit system got no government subsidies and the anarcho-syndicalist movement did not achieve a unified planning system because they didn't get rid of the state. so they had to survive based on their fares. there was a 60 percent increase in riding due to war time. and the collective made a substantial profit which was donated to the war effort.

Thanks for the reply! :)
EDIT:
The movie "Libertarias" about anarchist spain says nobody paid for the train ("The tramway belongs to everyone")
But other than that, I don't have any sources... Yeah, I remember that. I'm still wondering if some parts of the public transportation system actually were free, or if they just made up that in the film.
