Fabolous
French Montana
Rick Ross
Jay Electronica
Elzhi

Lupe
Chip The Ripper
Big Boi
Lil Wayne (fuck the haters)
Wiz Khalifa

And More

This diverse list of rappers are releasing some form of hip hop which is good. Are they as good as Nas? Jay Z? BIG? 2Pac? No. But thats 4 rappers that due to both their skill and the era in which they came of age, will always probably be considerd the "GOAT" or whatever

You may not like the "type" of hip hop these guys do, but they are good at what they do. If you want to hear about weed smoking and partying - Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y are your people. If you want to hear some good deep heartfelt lyrics - put on some J. Cole or Kendrick Lamar. If yu want to hear about selling drugs - Rick Ross and French Montana. And if you feel for some funny punchlines - go for Fabolous.

Maybe you should try listening first, and you will realise that your characterisation of hip hop isnt true for many of the artists listed above.

Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole dont use autotune or make it rain. But how could you know that, because you dont listen to "modern hip hop". Your not really in a position to judge "modern hip hop", until you listen to "modern hip hop".

And of course you can connect to alot of the content by some of the above artists.

I've listened to plenty of rap, and I don't like it. I also think that your two examples out of all those rappers is pathetic. I thought rap came from the streets, a man trying to do the only thing he knows how to make a life for himself. When you get away from that whole message, as most rappers do, it's absolute crap

From the first post you made it's been pretty obvious you don't listen to any "modern" Hip Hop, or that you havent bothered to even give it a chance. If you had you would be able to make some valid criticism instead of just saying auto tune sounds shit (how many people even use autotune anyway? not many at all) or it's all about throwing money at *****es.

Seriously I used to be a huge hater of new stuff but that's because I started listening to Hip Hop like 12 13 years ago when Cypress Hill IV sounded state of the art and Wu-Tang Forever was the standard everyone was trying to reach with their LPs. Needless to say, when people started releasing music with huge keyboard and synth based beats, I thought it was shit. But last year or so I've been listening to a bunch of new stuff and I can tell that in 10 or 20 years I'm going to look back at some of the albums that are coming out now and call them just as much classics as 36 Chambers, Return of the Boom Bap or Paid In Full. Hip Hop is really healthy right now believe it or not, it's a good time to start opening your mind and embracing some of the amazing music that is coming out

Suprisingly, it was Nelly who, in his own way, hit the nail on the head regarding the issue about the "wackness" of people like Soulja Boy in the eyes of rappers from previous generations: Hip hop was made by youth for youth, and "How can you say a 17-year-old is killing hip hop? ... What are you doing listening to a 17-year-old boy anyway?"

I agree with Spawn of Stalin, Earl Sweatshirt is the best member of OF.

Just starting to listen to Curren$y so can't say much about him, I thought Pilot Talk was average apart from the Devin the Dude track. You're spot on though, hip hop is alive and well and it's dumb to moan about 'modern hip hop'.

I can't blame people for being suspicious of anything near the mainstream though. 2005-2010 were some really rough years. But the clouds have parted and hip hop is back.

I used to be into Rick Ross the most when he released Trilla, there were a lot of cool songs on that album. Deeper Than Rap was kind of lame but Teflon Don seemed to be his rebirth but I have yet to here some of the album except Aston Martin Music.

I have to disagree, Tyler the Creator is much better. Sure, Earl Sweatshirt can probably rap and freestyle a lot better but that's about it. Maybe it's because he's young but Earl was just a compilation of good rap songs with hot lines while Tyler the Creator truly made an overall good piece of music with his albums. Bastard and Goblin have this intricate story of a schizophrenic kid role playing from Finn to Dracula and then lapses back to reality with his therapist whom also turns out to be a figment of his imagination, brilliant stuff. Bottom line, Tyler will always be the best member because he's by far the most creative.

What? Nas had two albums, both technically and lyrically brilliant in Illmatic and It Was Written.

Even this track he just brought out the other day Nasty is sick even if the beat is a bit average.

That Elzhi mixtape that came out this year, Elmatic is dope as well. Production is amazing, live as well.

Also, Kendrick Lamar's new song, gonna be on Section 80:

I first heard Illmatic when I was about ten years old, around 97 so it had only been out four years then, still fairly new (though today an album released in 2007 would be considered old news). My sister's boyfriend was really into Hip Hop, I kind of looked up to him so I was trying to get into it too. Listened to his Nas tape, hated it. I just couldn't understand it, it was way too intelligent. It Ain't Hard to Tell and The World is Yours blew my mind, I knew what I was listening to could probably be considered technically brilliant, but it was just too much, and looking back, that's actually what made it so damn good.

Took me probably about another two or three years to properly get into Hip Hop, I think the first albums I bought that I really loved were 36 Chambers and Return of the Boom Bap. I couldn't get into either of these albums or Illmatic until I learned to appreciate lyricism.

So basically, your defense is that Nas released one really good album and one pretty good album fifteen years ago, did nothing worth mentioning for the next decade and a half, but recently released one good track and a few mixtapes.

Who said really good and pretty good? These are classics. The whole rest of his catalogue isn't bad either, just those are the two best. Illmatic is widely thought of as a top ten all time album. Lyrically Nas was ridiculous, those multi-syllable internal rhymes, and his flow as well.

I do think illmatic is really great, "a classic." I was trying to be as clear as possible so I just said it was really good :P. Obviously this is just my opinion but I think you've got to acknowledged that it was written was worse than illmatic, if it was still a really listenable album. But yeah, the rest of his catalogue "isn't bad" - i'd say it was pretty damn awful in its incessant medicoreness, but okay, not seeing how a guy with two good albums can be considered one of the greatest rappers of all time, or seen as anything other than a guy who had tonnes of promise and then kinda failed.

Got Urself A Gun is probably my favourite Nas song outside of Illmatic. Stillmatic was great and definitely a return to form in my opinion. And I don't really think age should play a part in how valid someone's opinion is, when I was 15 I listened to exactly the same MCs I do today. Unless we're talking about the 15 years olds who think they know everything about Hip Hop just because they got on Google and downloaded some CDs, in which case I don't think they would care about Stillmatic considering the album is what 11 or so years old now?
