Rush Limbaugh said some stuff this weekend and got fired. I don't understand it. ESPN hired him to be controversial. The ratings were slipping. People are tired of talking-head announcers and dumb ex-jocks. So they hired the man to add some spice to the show. That's what he did. And the moment he got out the box--which he was hired to do--they let him go. I don't understand it.

I don't agree with what he said. Donovan McNabb is a fine quarterback. And lots of black NFL quarterbacks have taken a great deal of heat from the Media. Kordell Stewart. Quincy Carter. Just to name a couple. If Limbaugh is guilty of anything it's this: He doesn't know a great deal about football. But he wasn't hired for that purpose.

Coorporate America is just getting way too politically-correct. A man can't even make an innocent comment without it getting all twisted around. Racist? Bullshit. Naive about the game in the modern age. I'll buy that one. Leave us alone, corporate America. As hard-working Americans, we want to be entertained.

I don't know where you are getting the idea that ESPN hired him to be controversial? They have never publicly made that claim, they did hope to pull his radio listeners to their show, since he does have a very large group of daily listeners. Was there a commercial I missed on TV for ESPN that said, "We've got the controversy you always wanted in football!"? I haven't seen that add, so you are making claims that you can not base. The closes you are going to find is a headline that says, "ESPN hires controversial radio announcer..." not a headline that sayd, "ESPN claiming they wanted controversy on their station, hired radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh" Big difference.

Maybe they did ask him to step outside the box, I can hear the conversation. "Rush we feel that here at ESPN we have too many viewers, and also we don't like you. Can you say something that will offend many people and turn away our viewers while at the same time allowing us to fire you or you just quit? We are taking a new approach to ESPN, please do not watch us."

Rush does have a pretty well trained voice, obviously he has been on the radio for some time. Announcers are not shown much during the game so he didn't need to be attractive, just sound good.

I don't know why you capitalists complain.

I agree. In this country you cant say ANYTHING negative about black people with out getting crucified.

You believe in the invisible hand and the dollar is your vote. Well what do you think happens when a company has somebody say something using their free speech. Remember he still has his free speech, the government didn't take it away from him. But just like there is freedom of speech there is freedom to react to speech.

He has said worse on his radio show, much worse and not had any problems. Why? because his listerners are 99.9999% white and don't have issues with something that could be considered offensive by a majority of the black community.

On ESPN however, he does have black listeners and they aren't going to want to listen to the rich fat white man talk about black quaterback media conspiracies when they are watching a game. They sure don't want to listen to him after saying that, they do not tune in to a football game to be pissed off by the voice of the annoucer immediatly.

It isn't about being "Politically Correct", which is a farce term to begin with, when it comes to companies in America. They want to try and be neutral as much as possible or at least side with which ever side will cause the least most of problems.

Wal Mart edits the music it sales and doesn't offer what they think might be considered offensive, Parental Advisory music unless edited for what they think is there consumer basis. Well that is what just happened at ESPN, they no longer offer what they think is considered offensive to many of thier viewers.

Now Rush has bigger problems anyway, what with his recently revealed heroin/oxy addiction and pending charges for making large purchases of strong painkillers!! I fucking love it - the guy is getting cruicified for new stuff every day!

What will they find out next - that he is a member of the republican party?! I think that would be it for him...

No if you want to make a negative comment about blacks in America just make a show on UPN, then you can mock us all you want by portraying us in a bad light.

It's the black face minstrel shows of the new millenium.

Man get off it, white people complain so much about all this Politicaly Correct crap, just shut up, You guys are still running the damn country, you guys still control the majority of the money.

So you can't say nigger whenever you feel like it, and you may have to hire one of us once in a while.

But remember your bank accounts are still more than most black people will ever see in their life time.

If there was every a man who I would like to see fall, it'd be Rush Limbaugh. No High-School diploma (got a GED), never even thought about college, and dodged the draft. Yet, to hear him talk, you'd think that he was the smartest man on earth who would love to blindly die for his country.

Read "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot." Its excellent.

Most people don't because they know that it's a stupid thing to say, and that they will (Hopefully) get the shit beat out of them. The same reason I'd probably get my ass kicked if I went up to a group of 'white' people and sayed that they were stupid honkeys. It doesn't have anything to do with heart. If you had any heart you wouldn't be racist in the first place, and you would likely be capable of arguing in a much more intelligent manner.

As the the UPN thing, in case you haven't noticed, they have a lot of 'black comedies'. What these consist of are comidies that the manager/script-writer thought was funny, but really consists of little more than 'urban accents' and bad stereotypes; likely because the script-writer got all of his stupid ideas from other 'black comedies'. We don't like them because they're boring, stupid, and have little much going for it other than the random person saying something along the lines of 'Dag' or 'You go girl'.

UPN is a network that has lots of "black" shows, on which black people act ina stereotypical manner, thus I called it the new minstrel shows of the new millenium.

>I can say [not on my watch] whenever I want you know why? because this is America. Most people dont becuase it isnt in their heart to say it.<

When i said you can't say it whenever you want I meant you can't say it whenever you want without fear of backlash.

Saying it in the presence of a group of black people is one instance when saying it isn't the smartest choice.

However in the comfort of your car or amongst other white people it's fine, I myself have seen this happened.

Sure you can say it, but I wouldn't recomend it, not every black person is going to take it as light as I do.

Also you can't say anything you want in America, I can't say anything "Unpatriotic" unless I want to get my ass kicked by a mob of angry blind nationalists...I mean patriots

Also most people don't say it in front of blacks not because it isn't in their hearts, but because they don't want to be labeled a racist.

In the privacy of their own home or amongst friends they could give a flying fuck about what blacks feel regarding the word

That is splitting hairs. Most people are offered to step down before being let go for publicity reasons and for their careers. In fact in some people's contracts, I am guessing that Rush's lawyers and manager, knowing what kind of person Rush is, had it put in his contract that if due to any reason he should no longer do the show, he is allowed to step down instead of being fired.

It takes something that is an 8 on the scale of humiliating (being fired) and moved it down to a 5 on the scale of humiliating (stepping down).

White people view racism differently than Blacks do.

White people in America have had it good, minorities have had it bad.

So why would you be uptight about it?

Unless you are a first or second generation European immigrant you really didn't face any hardships if you are white.

White people have no reason to be touchy about race because you guys hold the power in this country.

"Oh some black comedian said white people can't dance....now let me go to my suburban house in my Jaguar after I check my bank account to make sure I"m still rich"

There used to be a saying amongst poor whites "I may be poor but atleast I'm not a nigger"

When you've never lived with the stigma of jim crow or slavery it's kinda hard to see racism as something that dominates your life.

Minorities live with the memory that they were once and in some cases still are 2nd and 3rd class citizens.

Gee I wonder why that is? People in the majority don't mind having negative words used against them. "Oh gee you called me Honkey, you just reminded me that I am white, that I have a better chance of success, less chance of incarceration, I won't be racialy profiled, one time slave owners, my race controls most the property, companies, legislative, judicial and exectuive branches inthis country." Gee, what an insult, who wouldn't hate being reminded of that?

Personally, I take offense to the term cracker if it was used on me, I wouldn't be upset or angry, but I would take offense. Unless I did something stupid and socially unaware and deserved it, then I would re-examine what I did and try to fix my mindset. Actually, I would feel really bad if I did something that warrented me being called that.

Why don’t you stop *****ing and actually do something about it. Stop listening to liberal democrats and Jesse Jackson. Listen to Larry Elder.

And if you want to go down the "white people own more" road all I can say is this: We are the majority, if there are more white people then naturally more property and business will be owned by white people. If you are hung up on the property then move to Zimbabwe and kick some white people off their farm’s (if there are any own by white people anymore). I am sure Mugabe would be happy to accommodate you.

Fuck black history month;.

It's just a cop out. Instead of actually teaching Black American and African history in school they devote a month to what we already know about MArtin Luther King Jr.

There shouldn't be a black history month, Black history should be taught along side European History, Asian history, and Hispanix History all year round.

The history book at my highschool had two chapters on Africa, thats it. It had a sub section about the Civil rights movement. And slavery encompassed about two pages by it's self.

Black history is just a little table scrap to shut blacks up.

And what do you mean where is white history month...white history is taught all year round.

I love history, but I'm getting really sick of hearing about the Europeans every 3 seconds. As if Europe is the only place on earth, it isn't even really a continent.

Asia, S. America, Africa for the most part they are ignored in history classes unless you take a specific one in college.

Also why white programming dominates the Entertainment industry anyway. So blacks get crappy little BET, would you really trade all teh major networks for a crappy Cable Channel?

Just because whites are the majority does that mean it's justified that the "American Dream" is more easily acessible for them?

HankMorgan
7th October 2003, 04:57
I believe a person should be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin. Dr. King was right.

I believe society should be color blind.

I believe it's wrong for a government, a business, school or any other institution to make decisions based on race because I can see the danger. The danger is that today the decisions may be made according to what I believe or hold to be important. But tomorrow the decisions may NOT be favorable. Today we may implement affirmative action but we are still saying it is acceptable to make decisions based on race. When we as a society say it is acceptable to make decisions based on race we may end up with something completely wrong. The only safe and fair path is true color blindness.

I also believe those words are considered racist in the USA in the year 2003.

That being said, here is some more good stuff from the NRO. Jay Nordlinger, managing editor of National Review Online. (http://www.nationalreview.com/impromptus/impromptus090203.asp)

He writes about the National Football League's Rooney Rule which was implemented after a threat of a lawsuit by Johnnie Cochran. The Rooney Rule requires an NFL team to interview at least one minority coach as part of the process of hiring a new head coach. Please read what happens as the Detroit Lions, the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys hire new head coaches.

One last "I believe". I believe that race relations will never improve until everyone can speak about race honestly and openly.
