View Full Version : Gaddafi and the west?
I'm new to politics so I've been reading about the west backing dictators until it's not possible to do so and so on. I was watching an interview with Noam Chomsky who said that Libya is a special case. What exactly was/is the relationship between Gaddafi and the west?
If anyone could point me to any primary source material to back things up that would also be brilliant. I'm not exactly sure how to find that kind of thing :blushing:

Gaddafi is a bourgeois nationalist who sided with the USSR during the cold war. He nationalized a lot of his country which quickly made Libya one of the most progressive and well off countries in northern Africa. After the collapse, Libya was put under a lot of pressure, this intensified after 9/11 where the US seemed to have free reign to invade arab countries on a whim, without much resistance at home.
Gaddafi ended up opening up some of Libya's economy and giving things up to the West increasingly, until recently. The NATO/US rebellion in Libya is attempting to overthrow Libya's government so that they can take ALL of Libya's economy. Gaddafi and the Libyan people are now fighting against Imperialism in an attempt to save what gains they have left.
I suspect (Gaddafi has said this) if he were to win, he would halt all trade with the West and open more contracts with Russia/China.

He is a dictator indeed, but he did and build great things for libya, as I heard from people that support Ghaddafi. I believe that, because they went there, if I'm not wrong. The Western society let people believe that those who they are fighting against are opressing dictators that torture the people like it's a hellhole there, but if they are really the keepers and bringers of peace and democracy, than they should have acted along time ago against brutal dictators in Africa.
It's just about the oil and other resources, and Gaddafi doesn't like to give that up, and the riots there where the perfect chance to attack.

There is no such thing as Dictators. A single person cannot control a country. Classes control countries.

The elite control indeed the mode and needs of production, just as the people and the media. State-Capitalism.
