i was looking at this great book we have (my dad got it in the 70s) on art in the soviet union. it is amazing. the art that came out of that time and country is breathtaking and most of all powerful. then i realized the book was published in 1975. that means the soviet union still existed - that just knocked me out. it's amazing. published in leningrad. WOW! i couldn't, and still can't, believe it.

anyways, here's my point. do you guys think the artists that made soviet art were true believers of the idea of communism or were they just part of the corrupt government? i know most were commisioned to produce art, but did they really believe what the were saying? what do you think?

i don't know, the book just got me thinking.

i began thinking how cool the soviet union was, until i remembered what a shame it is that it didn't work out and how corrupt it was. just think, what if it still existed in true communist form with all its glory and greatness? man....

it was an experiment that went horribly wrong...

american culture always was rotten...Soviet propaganda...that rules!
and what about art?that rules...i love old soviet films much more than new russian or(huh) american super films from Holywood...USA has the last place in culture in the world...this fuckers even killed indians :)
i can't remember any american artist...coz artist is for soul not for money and in USA everything is for money
...americans were proud that they have colour TV huh!!!
that is not a cause to be proud of...americans have nothing to be proud of...and Soviet Union had a lot of things to be proud...i don't say about weapons :))))

Well, I am a Russian Studies student. I personally think that they have one of the strongest cultures in the world. They have been through a lot more than people realize and have survived with a lot of that strength in tact. Their art always has been and always will be exceptional. It is an artistic culture. Full of vibrance and craftsmanship. There art is in every niche of their society. Religion, daily life, thought, writings, drama, etc. It is everywhere.

As for the "experiment that went horribly wrong" there were many factors to it's demise. Just to name a few; the 'Good 'ol US of A' did everything they could to hamper and destroy every move they made, men with a great hunger for power got in control, many European countries fought them just as hard as the USA, and they had a couple of programs that were sh** to begin with and they also helped in the decline.

However, if you watch closely, I don't think they will remain a capitalist culture for long. It is just not the Russian way. Think about how quickly they took to communism. How easily they took to Imperialism. This country has been a 'capitalist' culture for over ten years now and they still just can't relate to it. I don't think it will last. I hope it doesn't. It just isn't them. It would be a shame to take such a beautiful culture and turn it into another American culture.
