I know there must be some Christian Socialists knocking about, or atleast some people who can give me some good Leftwing Jesus quotes. Can you list some of the good ones. They tend to be pretty effective at making overly zealous Christians think for a second.

Here's a few just from the wiki page on Anarcho-Christianity

He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble (Luke 1:52).

Christians struggle against governments, rulers, and spiritual wickedness (Ephesians 6:12).

Honest people are too busy making an honest living to accept political power, so only the corruptible will accept political power (Judges 9:7-15 The Parable of the Trees).

So I saw all this, and applied my heart to every work that has been done under the sun; all the things wherein man has power over man to afflict him. (Ecclesiastes 8:9)

And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule (Gr. archo) over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you...." (Mark 10:42-43a)

And some on Christian Communism & Socialism:
49 For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. 51 He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. 52 He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. 53 He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away - Gospel of Luke (1:49-53)

Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. 23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. 24 And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God - Matthew 19:21-24

For I was hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in; 36 Naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink; 43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous into life eternal - Matthew 25:36-46

And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need - Acts 2:44-45

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs - Timothy 6:10

And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation - Luke 6:20-24

Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food - Isaiah 55

For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness - Corinithians 8:13-15

Edited my post with a few more. The Bible though, being the contradicting work that it is, can be used to support almost any manner of idealogy.

This (http://www.garynorth.com/public/department57.cfm) article claims instead that the Bible is anti-Socialist and actually supports a free market Capitalist system :rolleyes:

I know it's not a Jesus quote, or even from the NT, but how about a bit of wishy-washy antistatism from Samuel I 8:

“And all the elders of Israel gathered, and came to Samuel, to Ramah. And they said to him, ‘Behold, you have grown old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now, set up for us a king to judge us like all the nations.’ And the thing was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, when they said, ‘Give us a king to judge us,’ and Samuel prayed to the L-rd. And the L-rd said to Samuel, ‘Listen to the voice of the people, according to all that they will say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from reigning over them. Like all the deeds which they have done from the day I brought them up from Egypt, and until this day, and they forsook Me and served other gods; so are they doing to you. And now, listen to their voice; except that you shall warn them, and tell them the manner of the king who will reign over them.’ And Samuel related all the words of the L-rd to the people who asked of him a king. And he said, ‘This will be the manner of the king who will reign over you; he will take your sons, and appoint them to him for his chariots and for his horsemen, and they will run before his chariots. And he will appoint them to him commanders of thousands and commanders of fifties, and to plough his ploughing and to reap his harvest, and to make his weapons and the equipment for his chariots. And he will take your daughters for his perfumers, for cooks, and for bakers. And he will take the best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive trees, and will give them to his slaves. And he will tithe your grain crops and your vineyards, and he will give them to his officers and his slaves. And he will take your male and female slaves, and your handsomest youths and your asses, and put them to his work. And he will tithe your flocks, and you will be slaves to him. And you will cry out on that day because of your king, whom you will have chosen for yourselves, and the L-rd will not answer you on that day.’ And the people refused to listen to Samuel's voice, and they said, ‘No, but there shall be a king over us. And also we shall be like all the nations, and our king will judge us, go forth before us and wage our wars.’ And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he spoke to them in the ears of the L-rd. And the L-rd said to Samuel, ‘Listen to their voice, and you shall make them a king.’ And Samuel said to the men of Israel, ‘Go, every man to his city.’ ”

Ya that Samuel quote is really good, Thomas Paine quoted it in Common Sense too for propaganda against British Monarchy.

I'm curious why you block out o in THE LORD, though. I assume you're Rabbinical, and do not want to use the name of God, but THE LORD is the replacement of the name anyhow?

To be honest I just do it out of tradition / habit, rather than anything else, considering it's not even in Hebrew, so doesn't much matter. Also I actually just copy-pasted that directly from an essay I'd written, and when I typed it up there, I made a point of making sure there were all the omissions, to cover all the bases. I didn't want to distribute it to somebody who'd then say "what the hey?! Put the line in there, boy!" :thumbup:

there is some stuff in new testament James one of which is;

James 5 (New International Version)

James 5

Warning to Rich Oppressors

1 Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. 2 Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. 4 Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. 5 You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. 6 You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.

there is also an essay by Engels on;

On the History of Early Christianity
