Even tho we are leftist, we have all this fear of change, at various degree. In order to evolve we have to fight this instinct of keeping things the way they where.

how do you guys fight that? what are your methods and trick to silence this conservative inner voice?

Personally, i am conservative for anything food related, and in order to explore new stuff i absolutely need someone that will pressure me to do so.

Personally, I'm not big on changing little things in my life, I like relative stability. But I hate the system so much that it's a bigger issue to me - I wouldn't want to live my entire life under capitalism. If I have to, it will be lived trying to change that system. I can't think of anything more worthy to do. So I could live with change, as long as that change is going in the right direction.

Well, I just tell myself, "how can you call yourself a communist if you...?". That usually silences my conservative inner voice pretty well.

If you met me in person, you'd know there was never a conservative side in me.

Yeah, I have a voice in my head going "Don't DO that, you're a bad comrade!" and I can appreciate change =]

i was gonna say this.

two things really. i remember the trotsky quote; 'ideas that enter the mind under fire remain there securely and forever'. communism became a necessity for me in times of struggle and i hope that i never forget that. following that it helps to understand and empathize with the conditions of other oppressed people, especially those who have it worse.

i think its difficult to turn back on these ideas when you truly understand communism to be the only way for humanity.

I wasn't aware that a conservative was living inside of me, but this is most startling news. Is it just going to be like a fight club sort of situation where I end up literally fighting my conservative personality?

I used to have a conservative side. I don't know what happened to it, it just kind of went away. I have nothing resembling a regular schedule, and eat whatever's available regardless of what time of day it is. I take that back, I do smoke pretty regularly.

This. Since awakening to communism I don't do alot of things I used to and that phrase often helps.

The conservative in me exploits workers and tortures third world nations.

there's a conservative living inside me? WOOOOOOOAAAAA! that is REALLY FUCKING WORRYING ME... is it gonna lay eggs in my brain? should I see a doctor about it? :cursing::cursing::cursing:

seriously though, in the first two years of being a marxist I had some brief identity crises, but then I realised that communism is, in-fact, the future of humanity, and that just sort of... stopped...

The conservative side in me doesn't come to the surface very often, but sometimes it does and I use the "how can you call yourself a communist..." technique, it works well.
