View Full Version : Communists = Nazis

Obviously. Am I the only one who runs into these people? The people who don't distinguish between communists and Nazis?
I had these glasses with the hammer and sickle on them, and someone asked me why I was wearing Nazi symbols. Also, someone had a powerpoint about Hinduism and was talking about how they have a swastika in their traditional symbolism saying "But that doesn't mean they're communists!" What exactly do swastikas have to do with communism again? -.- ... These are all slightly tolerable due to the people making the mistake being members of my generation, where ignorance seems to be a virtue...
But the most unforgiveable: My friend, wearing similar hammer and sickle glasses, was accosted by a teacher who told her wearing Nazi symbols isn't OK. A freaking teacher.
Why are people so ignorant? Why do people see communism and nazism as the same thing? Do you know people like this who use communism and nazism/fascism interchangeably?

It's true. We are all just Nazis.

Eh, this is an unfortunate common mindset among some right-wingers who believe the whole "horse shoe" nonsense regarding political ideologies. That is due to the authoritarian tendencies of the "far-left" and the "far-right", there is little real difference between the two. Then you got morons like Rex Curry on the intertubes and elsewhere that spreads this junk too, equating National Socialism (ZOMG IT HAS SOCIALISM IN IT!!11!), Fascism, and Marxism into one, and then using that as a base to attack the liberulhs with.
Why bother thinking critically about political ideologies when you can just wrap all the "bad" ones into a single, convenient package. Among the left, or at least in my experience, we do have a tendency to just drop "fascist" like crazy for people we don't like.

Yeah, calling people we don't like "fascist" is a little akin to calling Barack Obama a communist.... Shouldn't happen.

The problem is that most people today are just totally ignorant to any other political view thats not liberal capitalism...When i was talking about communism with someone from my school he said "better dead than red!", and i replied "So you would rather be a fascist?"
Also, Fox news often compares Obama to the National Socialists... because they dont see the difference in Socialism and National Socialism.

I see this all the time. I die a little inside, get really pissed off and then just feel depressed about the human race.
There is this thread in the Pdox OT at the moment called something like ''Why don't people see Communism as being as bad as Fascism/National Socialism?'' I got an infraction for calling the creator a moron. I've tried to avoid it since but it's been there for like a week. How can you have such a long discussion about such a stupid thread title?
:(
I hate these sort of ignorant twats.

They do have a point though. Everybody knows "Workers of the world unite!" But did you know that the next line is "But not Jews!"

To the OP, it's not just your generation. If it makes you feel any better, it happened to me plenty when I was young. That may in part explain the idiocy of your teacher as well. If (s)he is in their early 30s, that would just about square it.
Also, just because someone's got a degree doesn't mean they're educated. Even in collegiate history and poli-sci coursework you don't generally get into the specifics of how communism and fascism operate, whether on a theoretical or practical level. The one place you will get that kind of schooling is from a sociology degree, but I'd be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that there aren't a lot of primary and secondary educators floating around with that kind of education.

I'm definitely glad to hear that it's not just my generation. It's just disconcerting how ignorant and stupid people can be regarding communism.

Why would you be glad that the ignorance extends past just your generation?
That is due to the authoritarian tendencies of the "far-left"
can we at least agree that equating other tendencies to nazis is where revleft gets too dumb

It is not very common, but unfortunately it happens. Like last 4th of May (the day war victims are mourned, especially those from the second world war) the PVV (party of Geert Wilders) claimed it was a day to mourn victims of '(national) socialism', thus equating them. It is rather controversial to do so though.

I think your idea is intriguing. Do you just put the hammer and sickle image on the side, or what? (At my school, I think I'd probably get beaten up for wearing something like that. Besides that, and the fact that I don't need glasses and wouldn't start wearing glasses for the sake of fashion, I think it's a cool idea.)

They're not actually like wearing glasses. I wouldn't do that either, I revel in having perfect vision. It's really like this:
3D glasses with the lenses punched out... covered in red duct tape (completely, including the lense area) with hammer/sickle drawn on each lense. Meant to be worn on the forehead, although I did punch holes in them so you can see out of them if you wear them normally. I made up this whole BS analogy for the lolz about how if you wear it like normal, it represents how most people see communism. As in, only what the capitalist media tells you about it. Yeah.
I bet that sounds really weird. Lol.

Proof? Well, my dad and my brother and I were messing with 3d glasses snf juice bottle packaging, making weird stuff and my dad decided to cover the 3d glasses in red duct tape. It was late at night and stuff, so it seemed like a good idea to draw hammer and sickle on the lenses with a sharpie. And that was that. Yes, I do weird shit sometimes. I don't really have a reason why. *waits for everyone to judge me*

I remember one time we were doing an AFed stall and someone said to a comrade, "I'm a socialist, just like you. A national socialist!" It was odd really, because usually people on the far right wouldn't really want to associate themselves with socialism, but I suppose perhaps he thought he'd have a chance of converting us or something.

Actually "Beter dood dan rood", which is the dutch version of "Better dead than red" was quite common during our own little phase of red scare. I played a game of Triviant yesterday and one of the questions was: "What does the phrase "Better dead than red" mean?" (in dutch ofc)
Sad though.

Well, I generally wear them on my forehead so I can see normally. I have this whole little paper I give to people who I make commie glasses for that has a cute little picture of how to wear them if you want to see and how not to wear them if you would like to keep your peripheral vision.
I've had online friends ask me to make a video showing them how to make them... I could do that, although they're pretty simple to make. Lol.
