Fuck man. I just got a bill from when I went to the ER. I saw the actual Doctor for like 5 min and he's charging me a grand. Plus, I was late on my payment for my credit card, and I have to pay over $100. Hence, I am a socialist.

But why for the love of god are there still these fucking poor libertarians, who still support private property and capitalism, when I know for a fact they don't have a fucking cent to their name, and they deal with these issues and much worse and they still believe this stupid shit about the free market and how if it was a truly free market everything would be okey dokey. Fuck these people. What the fuck. What do we do with ignorant people like this. I mean, it's so obvious that they're being dicked over by big business and corporations, and they have no fucking clue.

I used to be polite to these people, but no more. Except for my one friend, next time one of these bozos gets on my case, I'm just going to be straight up. Yeah, capitalism? How's that working for you. Oh it's the government? And who's interests do you think the government protects, you fucking idiot moron loser motherfucker. You're an obstacle to progress, not because of your ill intent, but because of your ignorance, which is worse. I hope you get sick and then you will understand why we support single-payer, and not this bullshit obamacare, which is what Republicans supported before Obama made all these stupid ass concessions. Damn you're stupid.

Straight up. I can't stand this town and all the dumb motherfuckers in it. I want out.

America is extreme - you don't get charged for emergency room care like that in the UK.

Yup, I went to the ER with a friend once and the 30 second doctor conversation presented an $800 bill.

I was mainly talking about the ignorance part, really. At least i know medical treatment is free of charge down here in public hospitals for lots of cases.

I have medical coverage from the state but I barely use it. I haven't been the to ER since I was like 3 (knock on wood). I have no personal experience but
this cook at my job said he went to the doctors for a rash on his arm. When the doctor came out he said "oh you're allergic to corn" and than left.
Gave him a 1000$ Bill.

I'd actually say that ill intent is much worse than ignorance. Because the second isn't guilty, as had good intentions, whereas the first is consciously evil.

Maybe it's a plan to convince us all to move there!

My father went in for knee surgery a few months ago, where they used a laser to drill/melt three little holes in his knee. That was it, plus stitches. Operation lasted 35 minutes. They sent us the bill, stating our insurance refused to pay. How the total expense came out to over $23,000 is beyond me. My father gave them a nice, verbal, loud phone call, and we haven't heard from them since. ( I assume insurance payed lol )

As a generality, I don't think it's true that capitalist libertarians "don't have a cent to their name". In North America, my experience has been that most come from fairly well to do, educated upper middle class families that could take care of them financially if things went sour and in any event have a whole rolodex of useful contacts to get them a job that doesn't require physical labor. And in places like developing economies, esp. south asia and eastern europe, in my experience these hard core libertarians are not your typical poor person - they are usually on an "elite track" of some sort if they don't come from families with money.

Funny how those who argue for an elitist, hierarchical society consider themselves to be among the ruling class of said society. Shocking indeed.

I think the problem with American and most other people in developed countries isn't that they hold messed up free market ideologies (though many do ), but rather that they would rather put up with a crappy free market system than see people they see as inherently lazy or incompetent (ethnic minorities, young people, women) get any benefits of civilization.

Ignorance, stupidity, finally apathy is how the capitalist system functions more I think about it.

How far we can take this ignorance to our hards, how long insurance companies can rip of us, how long energy prices will go up and we agree to pay, even working class struggling but we still pay and make them richer, wealthier, powerful. What can I say capitalist blood suckers, is any change to take revenge?:(

Yup, I went to the ER with a friend once and the 30 second doctor conversation presented an $800 bill.

In Florida, one of my comrades couldn't get a cast for a broken leg because the doctor demanded $600 upfront and ey didn't have the money. So ey just made do with a splint; the leg hurts now whenever the weather changes. I didn't realize such denial of care was legal, but apparently it happens. And in Texas, a friend of mine got a $5,000 bill after ey passed out in the Houston airport. The docs didn't even have a proper diagnosis or do anything beyond the basics such as an IV with saline solution. The medical system here in the United States is a nightmare. This reminds me that I need to make a payment on some hospital debt of my own.

Here's the irony: If conservatives were really serious about saving money, they'd be in favor of universal health care. What's that saying? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? If we were all getting adequate preventative care, we wouldn't have to wait until we were on our deathbeds before making a trip to a public hospital's emergency room. The latter is far more expensive than the former I'm sure.

To give an extreme example, I have a congenital heart defect which on occasion (about once every five years) has landed me in the emergency room. Now, a surgery would solve the whole problem, but the state would rather eat the cost of my emergency room visits (I'll be good and goddammed if I'm paying those bills) than just go ahead and foot the bill for my surgery.

As an aside, I have had surgery on the thing twice... when I was a kid and on my parents' insurance. The trouble was that they were just pioneering the procedure they used on so it failed both times (my surgeon actually asked and we consented to him presenting my case at a national convention of pediatric cardio-surgeons so that they could improve the technique). Apparently, they've gotten a lot better at it so there's a good chance it would succeed if I had it done now, but I've got no damned coverage.

Speaking of ignorant Americans, I was on the bus this morning and some overweight, leather jacket-American flag pin-having, jackass got on with a hipster style hat that said "American Arrogance" on it.

I sympathize with you El Vagoneta!

I really don't know how I'm going to get my insulin (type one diabetes). As glad as I am to be far away from Indiana (moved back to Omaha, NE), they had a small chain of pharmacies in N.W. Indiana that supplied a lot of government subsidized medicine. I went from paying $100 a vile to $10* (a vile lasts about a month). I really hope I can find something out here, because paying $200 a month (i have two different medicines for diabetes) is wayyyyy toooo much. I already have rent and other bills/debt, along with the bare necessities (groceries, gas, etc.) This is hoping that nothing else pops up too(my car has a lot of problems too...)

Can we please abolish the wage system already? :crying:
/whine

* told my hardcore conservative dad that the government was subsidizing my medicine, otherwise I'd have none and be in the E.R. everyday. He had nothing stupid to say in response for once!

Why the hell would I go all the way to Mexico to see Mexican dumbasses when we have so many right here? One of my partner's clients was a mentally handicapped little girl whose [Mexican] mother preferred to pray to Jeebus that her daughter be cured over taking her to a mental health specialist.

I had insurance last year through my employer. Being a cancer survivor and less than 3 years in remission, I am suppose to go in every 3 months for biopsies. I was on free care when I wasnt working, and didnt pay anything. But being employed with insurance has cost me.

I was paying $500 a month in premiums because of my preexisting condition. My employer was picking up half, so that was $250 out of my pocket every month. Then the doctor visit cost me $50 a visit. And they only paid part of the procedure. I ended up paying $100 for a biopsy with insurance.

So I dropped the insurance this year. I havent been back for the procedures I am suppose to get. So even with insurance, I paid what it would have cost had I not had insurance.

I work with HIV/AIDS clients. For those who cannot pay for their expensive meds which are around $1500 a month, there have been AIDS Drug Assistance Programs funded by the state, matched with fed money. The governor of this state decided he wasnt going to approved the matched funds for these programs now they have been frozen. So people living with HIV/AIDS that have a good quality of life, some for many years, are now going on waiting lists and not getting their life sustaining meds. We are scrambling to find alternative drug companies to help with the cost, and some have been successful, but anyone who is newly diagnosed arent getting a chance at all.

The good news (if you want to call it that) is in 2014 when the Obama Health Care Act goes into effect, anyone diagnosed with HIV, will automatically go on Medicaid. Presently, a small percentage get Medicaid insurance. So its a small consolation, for those who are healthy enough to make it 3 years.

Aye it is absolutely rediculous how much it costs for even transport to the ER in an ambulence. 3 weeks ago I was in a bar fight and had to go to the ER for a brain injury and I got the bill for the Paramedics and it costs around 1200$. I guess taverns are not my thing.
