I don't understand why some people think that people who are for civil liberties are liberals. Sure the fight for civil liberties isn't necessarily based in the class struggle, but neither is Black struggle or the fight for gay rights. As long as you approach the issue of civil rights from a working class perspective just like anything else it fits fine with a socialist position. In fact, socialism is primarily about class struggle but it's also about a building a better world, and I for one don't want to live in a world where workers are denied basic civil liberties.

This here is the important part, of course. You are indeed correct, in my opinion, that civil liberties are important - for the working class. It's when you then extend the importance of civil liberties to something that is sacrosanct and universally applicable to any and all human beings, including the capitalist class and their fascist attack dogs, that I believe one crosses the line into liberalism, because the logical conclusion of such an approach is to turn away from revolution, as doing so may violate the liberty of reactionaries.

the capitalists will get more liberty as good citizens of a communist society; they just don't know it yet, so we must force it upon them. ;)

EVERY SINGLE SOCIETY EVERY has given full civil liberties to some and not others, recently enlightenment principles were that they beong to everyone.

If they are not for everyone they are not civil liberties are they.

This idiotic notion of taking away civil liberties from the Capitalist class makes no sense, if you have the power to take awy their civil liberties, then they are not the capitalist are they? Nor are they in power. You can't pick and choose who has civil liberties based on if you like his politics.
