they are certainly not heroes; more like monstrous people who used ignorance and terror to try and drag Kenya out of Imperialism (which is an admirable goal, mind you, but not in the way they did it).

There is a topic on the music section pertaining to Dr. Mutulu Shakur that deals with this

no. Thank you for opening it. Any more informaton I can get about these people would be great.

They might work into what I'm thinking will be my focus in history:Socialism in Africa. They aren't socialist, but they still may play some part.

In what way were'nt the Mau Maus heros. It seems like a muthafucker got to be a marxist,or socialist in order for him to get some respect. Rastafari I'm sorry but the Mau Mau was my HEROES. Simply because they fought for their Land and would be damn if the white man took what was theirs. Thats Revolutionary. They didn't use ignorance what because they didn't have no propaganda to preach about why Kenya needed a revolution.

Dont tell me you are gonna pull out some deotological theory...

Do you honestly think that the ends don't justify the means?

(I'm a follower of Kantian philosophy also, I just want to see what you think)

generally, I'd agree with you. Like I said, I have very little knowledge on the subject, but all of my sources tend to lead me to beleive that the Mau-Maus did more harm than good. Similar to the Kali cult of India, for example, the outside imperialists pressured local government to become even more harsh to all citizens in an attempt to stifle the Mau-Mau. Jomo Kenyatta, one of the nations most influential thinkers (of all time) was shut down after he was (incorrectly, I'd assume) associated with them.

I'm not sure the Mau-Mau preached anything [I]per se,[I] except for fierce resistance to encroachment on their lands by all men. Part of me inside hopes that some of their methods were blown out of proportion by the west to make them appear like savages:

Reputedly the loyalty rituals at their worst begun to include ritual cannibalism, bestiality and necrophilia with goats and sexual orgies. Ritual places were decorated with intestines and goat's eyes. Oaths now included promise to kill, dismember and burn. In what extent these rituals happened is unclear.

this sounds...questionable.

But once again, I would love to learn more about them from both sides.

Yes,this is to Rastafari. The Mau-Mau rebellion occured after Jomo Kenyatta came into power. It was between the Muslim Kenyans and their Christian counterparts. It was nasty really, the Mau-Mau(Muslims) were responsible for the autrocities, which occured in the villages.I don't know much, feel so bad seeing as though I am South African, but fuck I'm currently doing a project for university at the moment.Lata Broer! [COLOR=blue][SIZE=7][FONT=Arial]

Back on the Mau-Mau Rebellion, this is for Rastafari. This was the big rebellion in Kenya after Jomo Kenyatta came into power. This was between the Christian Kenyans and the Muslim Kenyans, they caused such autrocities-killed women and children and all. You're welcome to add on more, but this is as far as high school and university has taught me about African Socialism.I'm actually currently doing a project on it.Lata! :) :) :)

Consequentialism is not neccessarily a bad thing. But yes you are right in most cases the means doesn't justify the end. I too am a Kantian follower, but my way of life is almost dictated by rule Utilitarian,i.e.I don't have to waste time trying to decide what means I ought to follow, they just have to gel with some form of universal morality.e.g.I wouldn't waste time deciding whether or not I should be driving on the right or left hand side of the road, I know it's the law to keep left.
