Is it the official video or a fan-made one? Anyway, it's a great vid for a great song. I love Radiohead

Could I ask if you are just posting threads with one video and no real discussion, do it in the "What are you Listening to?" thread, or somewhere equally appropriate. Thus stops clutter in the forum. Thanks!

Well, i would argue that that at least the video has a message which speaks for itself and that message is open to discussion.

Well, if we look on the surface all music videos and songs can be interpreted in a manner of ways. By all means, lets hear your thoughts.

Well it does end with an advertisement for USAID.

Uh, blegh?

Because no one has bothered to give their thoughts, I'll give it a try:

In this day and age, this video is by default exceptional (not outstanding though). However, this issue is not explained in its totality. It doesn't explain why child labor exists in the third world, why the conditions are so bad, why there is abject poverty, nor the repercussions of globalization everywhere.

The view is almost that we, in the First World, live exceptionally better than those in the Third World and we should not look to the crux of the problem (i.e. capitalism) but support organizations that claim to want to end trafficking and child labor.

And then in the end, it turns out to be just an advertisement, nothing more. The viewer is supposed to just support MTV and support USAID.

So, in conclusion, this video actually is more harmful than good. It's a shame too because there is more that needs to be said amongst mainstream artists. There needs to be more light shed on this topic but from a totally different viewpoint. And one that doesn't involve the endorsement of MTV, for christ's sake.

Those are just my thoughts.

its very simplistic - survivors of trafficking live in the west and are trafficked into the west for domestic servitude and sexual exploitation right under our noses...

not all children in poor countries live in these conditions and the video fosters the "we are so lucky' mentality ignoring the tribulations and conditions of many children who live lives that are just as desperate and impoverished out side of the developing world..
