"OMG you couldn't listen to rock music, grow long hair in bureaucratic Stalinist states boo hoo hoo anti-imperialists shoot drug dealers and rapists blah blah". C'mon seriously who gives a fuck? We want an economic system where private property is abolished, wage slavery is ended, the means of production are under the control of the people, everyone gets access to housing, health care etc. When did Marx or Lenin ever propose some fucking hippie commune where we can all sit on our arses and go to mars duuuude while the men occasionally sexually assault women and then get politely told not to do it again (yes that is the line of some people on here)?

Yeah, exactly, who cares if people listen to rock music or grow long hair, oh i know, government officials that want to maintain hedgemonic power over people and who know that in a free democratic society their power would crumple.
We want an economic system where private property is abolished, wage slavery is ended, the means of production are under the control of the people, everyone gets access to housing, health care etc.
Which is not what the USSR was, not even close, and all of that stuff does'nt justify taking away personal freedoms, except for that the soviet state was scared.
Also how can the means of production be under the people's control when the state officials are the ones controling what is produced, when, who gets what, and what hair cut you can have and what CD you can listen too.
When did Marx or Lenin ever propose some fucking hippie commune where we can all sit on arses and go to mars duuuude while the men occasionally sexually assault women and then get politely told not to do it again (yes that is the line of some people on here)?
I don't think ANYONE has ever complained that rapists go to prison. As for the rest of it, your just talking bullshit.
But anyway if you want to still defend stalinist state terror by all means, good luck to you.

um, what are you trying to say, that i should be forced to cut my long hair when you would be in power and that rock/metal/punk music would be banned?
i agree with this:
We want an economic system where private property is abolished, wage slavery is ended, the means of production are under the control of the people, everyone gets access to housing, health care etc
still communist also fight for freedom, and i really like my long hair.

If there is no freedom on a personal level in the communist vanguard state then we're just another exploitative state. I support freedom for all communists*. (Of every tendency. Juche doesn't count.:che:)
*EDIT: And for everyone else too, that is, except for voicing their ideologies.

So basically what you want is a society where the Government dictates to people what hair styles they can have and what music they may listen to? I'm sure you will win many supporters to your cause.

Actually, rock music was not banned in most states that would be categorized as "Stalinist" (not in the strict sense, but in the "anything like the USSR" sense), at least not in Hungary and Czechoslovakia. I love 1980s Czechoslovak pop rock.
Long hair was frowned upon through, sometimes, Beatles fans with long hair got expelled from schools for "deliquence".
Needless to say, I, as a fan of punk, do not condone such moralistic dumbassery. I still appreciate the "evil soviet fake commie" states for their social gains and high standard of living (except for Poland and Romania and of course 1928-1950 USSR and shitholes like Laos).

What the fuck yo...are you confusing this with a hippy forum you're also a member of by chance?
Your thread starts with lambasting long haired hippies in an attempt to do what exactly? Make us ignore the complete and utter lack of credibility of your ideology?
That said, I'll be the first to say thank you for realizing OI is the place for your reactionary views :)

What reasons are there NOT to grow long hair, listen to rock music, or engage in recreational drug use? Whats wrong with dreaming of a future of space travel? Under a communist society, advancements in technology will come much quicker and such things seem inevitable. Though I agree, it seems people are let off lightly when it comes to sexist attitudes towards women, I don't see how this correlates with the rest of your post, or how banning long hair, rock music, and "hippies" (or advocating a society that could have such authority over individuals) could counteract that.
Sometimes I wonder what you guys even envision communist society as being from an ideal perspective. You honestly want an authority to suppress all notions of culture or counterculture? I don't know about you, but to me communism isn't just about having a roof over my head and having a full belly. If thats all we get after a revolution while arbitrarily sacrificing the means for individuals to express themselves however they want and to produces the things they want, then I want no part of it.
Communism to me is freedom to roam wherever without constraint, and to participate democratically in the administration of the society we live in, as well as democratically deciding what we as a society produce. It is freedom to decide how we shape our workplaces, as well as the freedom to abstain from working.
There is no historical precedent for the society I described, which is exactly the point. We need to strive for more, not settle for what "works." We learn from out mistakes and we do one better.

@ OP; if you just want to say your down with inexcusable stalinist acts like the murder of meyerhold ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meyerhold ) and the repression of the Russian avant-garde (the greatest leap forward in arts in history) in general just say so. Just know that if after your revolution we are all back to socialist-realism you can shove that contra-revolution where the sun doesn't shine.

I like it when all the libertarians and other cappies show up on here talking about naughty communist dictatorships and how we're all just calling for some kind of all-powerful intrusive regime to be set up (because that's communism, you know?), and then you spend a couple of minutes thinking 'but why do you all seem to think that's the goal or communism?' and then you realise that Marxach-Léinínach probably taught them everything they know about what commies advocate :)

As long as the obligatory fortnightly trips to the barbers are provided as part of the free health care, I see no problem with this set-up :)
