The director general of international monetary fund [IMF] was pulled from an airplane moments before he was to fly to Paris and was being questioned by police in connection with a sexual assault of a maid at a hotel, police said.
Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was taken off the Air France flight at John F Kennedy International Airport by officers from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and was turned over to police on Saturday afternoon, Paul J Browne, New York Police Department [NYPD] spokesman, said.
He was being questioned by the NYPD special victims office. Strauss-Kahn had retained an attorney and was not making statements to the police, Browne said. No charges have yet been filed.
The 32-year-old woman told authorities that she entered Strauss-Kahn's room at the Sofitel near Manhattan's Times Square at about 1pm local time (1600 GMT) on Saturday and he emerged from the bedroom naked, threw her down and tried to sexually assault her, Browne said.
She told authorities that he tried to force her to perform oral sex on him. She somehow broke free and escaped the room and told hotel staff what had happened, authorities said. They called police.
When New York City police detectives arrived moments later, Strauss-Kahn had already left the hotel, leaving behind his mobile phone and other personal items, Browne said. "It looked like he got out of there in a hurry," Browne said.
How...fucking...stupid....can....you...be...
No victory speech here, out of respect for the victim. (well because it was an unsuccesful attack I'll let in a good hahaha but that is all). Hopefully she'll be able to recover, both physically and pschologically, very quickly. Hopefully now the French socialists will nominate a socialist to run against Sarkozy.

The married former French finance minister is also a leading Socialist Party politician and is considered a possible candidate for the presidency.
He is due to attend a meeting of European Union finance ministers in Brussels on Monday to discuss the bailouts of Portugal and Greece.
A spokesman for New York's Port Authority said they detained Mr Strauss-Kahn at the request of the New York Police Department (NYPD).
He is now being questioned by the NYPD, who said he was co-operating fully with their enquiries.
According to US media reports, the Frenchman was accused of a sexual attack on a maid at a Manhattan hotel.
Spokesman Paul J Browne said the allegations had been made by a 32-year-old woman who worked at the hotel, which has been identified as the Sofitel near Times Square.
The IMF had no immediate comment on the incident.
'Error of judgement'
Mr Strauss-Kahn ran for leadership of the French Socialist Party in 2007 but eventually came second to Segolene Royale.
Later that year, he was appointed managing director of the International Monetary Fund.
Mr Strauss-Kahn has won praise for his stewardship of the IMF, which he has guided through difficult times including the recent world financial crisis.
But in 2008 he was investigated by the IMF board over his relationship with a female member of his staff.
The board ruled his actions "reflected a serious error of judgment" but that the relationship had been consensual. He apologised to IMF staff and his wife, French TV personality Anne Sinclair.
Mr Strauss-Kahn has not yet announced whether he intends to run in the 2012 French presidential elections but is widely expected to do so.
Not if you're facing a prison sentence for attempted rape *****. New York isn't Paris, you won't be able to escape a rape charge by apologizing on TV motherfucker!

I truly, truly apologize for being giddy about this.

A socialist heads the IMF? Damn.
Of course, sympathy for the victim. Even if he was a chimney sweep he should be brought to justice.

He won't go to prison. At some point or another he will be able to enter France and France does not extradite its own citizens under any circumstances.
Unless the charges are dropped however he won't be running for President now.

This won't really change much for Le Pen's campaign.

why not? it hurts the rightwing of the PS so even when they dont pull to the left it still makes the front more attractive to both the "law and order" rightwing PS voters and the disfranchised UMP voters.
its an sad testament to the utter fuckedupness of french politics when an party so tarnished with brown can present it self as the Clean party.

Likely the PS will run someone else now and it will be a personal rather than party scandal.
Anyway Le Pen will never be President because there is no runoff that she can win. If this hits the PS that badly that it is pushed into third place and the runoff is Le pen vs Sarkozy, Sarkozy will win easily.

Is Le Pen really as serious a threat as the media, especially over here, makes her out to be?
Not 'is she really a right winger" more 'does she actually have broad support?'

It will cost him millions and millions to settle this if he doesn't want to go to court and it would be an admission of guilt even if she is fabricating the whole thing (not suggesting this at all, but it does happen), and that wwould only be if there isn't damning evidence or enough to convict.
But hey, with no extradition it'll be a great time to use the seals again
edit: unlike originally reported, this piece of shit apparently did a lot more than just attempt rape. My heart goes out to the victim.
something else as well, with the us presidential election coming up, it'll be interesting to see how this is played by the politicians. If he is allowed to escape justice it will most certainly be brought up. As disgusting as using an event like this for political gain, the image of the sleazy frenchman rapin-and-running would be too hard to pass up in the us.

The man isn't a socialist he's a social democrat. Although when I heard he was a social democrat I honestly thought WTF is he doing as the head of the IMF? All the more reason to believe that voting doesn't count for shit anymore.

fascist tend to be overly narcissistic, that what happen when you take nietche, you put it in a blender and drink it up like coolaid.
On another note the national front is in serious trouble, that basicly why lepen daughter who is in charge, they want to change their image, you know, replacing the old nazi apologist who one day said to the press that x journalist was probably a jews by a relatively attractive blond woman with no political past.
and dont get fooled by the recent internet ''poll' they made, the whole thing is a publicity stunt.

Even if the left gets really really weak (not getting at the 2nd round) , I think it'd be the same as in 2002 (i.e, everyone except the Le Pen/FN voters voted for the centre-right candidate), So there is little chances we'll see a Le Pen holding the presidence of France (I hope)

Apparently he has an alibi, being he was at lunch with his daughter.
Maybe this is another attempt to slander him, it's getting interesting.
Sasha
17th May 2011, 23:54
Nah, the defense already deserted the alibi, the blaming the victim has started.
He now claims it was consensual, like an devote Muslim African room cleaner would throw herself at an man more than twice her age and then shout to the world se has been raped. What would be her gain for lying. She will likely loose her job ay an 3000 dollar a night hotel to begin with.
Not to mention that there is video evidence of her leaving the room severely distraught.

Some weird parts, they said he "ran off" to try and get out of the country and left his phone at the hotel, the problem was he booked the flight WAY in advance, and he called the hotel asking them to send the phone to the airport (if he was running away why would he call the hotel)?
But then again the rest of the facts point to the charges being correct.

Because I read top-quality rags like the Sun, I can assure you that this stuff (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3593263/Russian-PM-Vladimir-Putin-bid-to-wreck-IMF-boss-Dominique-Strauss-Kahn.html) is most definitely true. Them Russians still want to finish off what they started against Napoleon, you see...
