I used to be a Democrat I thought they were a political party here in the United States of America that was for the poor and the working class and that the Republicans were the political party of the Rich/Wealthy in my opinion Progressive Income Tax Right Wingers call Progressive Taxation Forced Charity or a Flat Tax Capitalist Exploitation will still exist Capitalism does not believe in helping the poor while it is true that America is not a pure Capitalist society it is a mixed economy anyway supporting higher taxes on the Rich to pay for Government/Social Services does not mean one supports Working Class rule does anyone agree ?

The USA is not a mixed economy, it is a pure capitalist society with liberal bourgeois regulations. The means of production are exclusively privately owned.

Not necessarily no. However, higher taxation on the rich to pay for social services is not a bad thing. It can make life easier on the working class, but seeking reforms to make life easier shouldn't be the task of socialists. Complete abolition of the capitalist system should be.

EDIT: Removed overhaul from the last sentence.

That's basically what a mixed market is.

Regulations = socialism?

All in one sentence! Yes, I agree but I feel it is the corporations and not the individuals who should be taxed, I'm not quite sure how that would work out though.

I think you understimate the cost of such an overhaul, its costs a lot of resources and time just to change the name of something, never mind shifting departments etc. And thats just changes to a bureaucratic system, not a complete reinvention of a society along Socialist lines. Besides people don't like change, and if the people aren't happy (and they rarely are) then you face counter-revolution. Reform isn't ideal but it could be that we never achieve Socialist revolution, shouldn't we try to improve things anyway? Whats the point of fighting against racism and abuse of workers otherwise?

That's basically what a mixed market is.
A mixed economy has nothing to do with regulations. In a mixed economy there are significant amount of both state and privately owned enterprises. China is a mixed economy.

TBH it's better to vote Democrat in the USA - as there is no way a leftist will be elected anytime soon and a capitalist with some progressive ideas is better than a fascist (ie a Democrat is better than a Republican.)

No.

I wouldn't support voting for a leftist, either.

I agree there is hardly a point in voting for a democrat or a republican, but I disagree that voting for a leftist is necessarily a waste.

I still love Rabbi's quote, Piss tastes better than shit but I'm still not going to serve it at my dinner party.

That may just be the worst run on sentence I have ever read in my life. The multitude of random capital letters and various different questions didn't help its cohesiveness either.

Irony ftw

I'm in the same boat as you trade. Tho I still have a soft spot for some of the more left-ish democrats; Bernie Sanders, Dennis Kucinich, Cenk, Michael Moore, etc

To me a good defining line, between the run-of-the-mill corporocrats and any even slight progressives, is Israel-Palestine. If any 'progressive' is giving speeches to AIPAC, I can't take them seriously anymore.

This being said, Bibi is coming to DC and despite knowing better I still have a faint hope that, after killing osama, the prez will finally grow a pair and at least make it appear that the US is to give some resistance to Israels expansionary and blatantly illegal policies. The chances are beyond miniscule but I hope nonetheless.

(not to try and derail the thread but felt like it was good spot to interject that bit)

Op, you got sucked into the left right bulls**t. Both parties are authoritarian shills for the corporate elite. The wya it works is the corporates lobby thier politicans for the changes they want, then the same corporates use thier media outlets to promote thier politican. This is how it all works. The simple solution is to severe the ties between the corporations and the government. Most people here think this is ludicrous but you must ask yourself why such big business is afraid of a free market.

Because a free market is a myth, and capitalism needs corporatism nowerdays to survive.
