Now I know from the title this sounds like one of those spammy spam spam threads that belongs over in Old Chat, but it's something I'm at wit's end about and need serious responses. Basically, I'm having a haircut crisis. As ridiculous as it sounds, it's something that probably everyone will go through who reaches my age.
The thing is, my hair is serious in need of a cutting. I've had one haircut in the last maybe, I dunno, year after shaving my head with a 2-guard for what seems like ages. The thing is, I've searched the web over and can't seem to find anything for men in their early 30s (I'm 32)... All the styles I've seen are either for teenaged boys (the Bieber cut or some damned emo looking thing) or middle aged men.
Being the goodly alpha male that I am, I want something that looks appropriately masculine, yet hip and age appropriate. I'm at a total fucking loss here, lulz...
PS If any of the mod/admin team feel this topic isn't appropriately located, I promise I won't feel aggrieved if you see fit to move it.

Well...look at it like this...
You have hair to consider different haircuts. I have the problem that its basically 1.5 cm or less...otherwise it looks ridiculous because of hairline issues (basically my hairline is a cowerdly asshole who tends to want to continue hiding from the world).

Just go to a hairstyling place and say that you want it pretty short, short enough that you can mess with it however you want but long enough so it's not borderline skinhead.

See I kinda dig that... It's similar to the cut below which I dig because of the whole rockabilly aesthetic, the trouble is my head's too goddammed big. I had a do like that before and it kinda made me look hydrocephalic.

Yeah, kinda wanna go medium length... I did what you're talking about before and didn't really like the outcome, though. Maybe the trouble started when I walked into Supercuts, though.

Do hair magazines exist for men? When my mum wants a new haircut she buys magazines with lots of pictures of haircuts in them.

I honestly don't know... The last time I was in a real salon they mostly had mags filled with women's styles. Those will generally throw in a few token men's looks, but they're usually sorely lacking.

If you wanted some reasonable responses to this, it is unclear why you did not post it in Chit-Chat in the first place. Well, I suppose you may have wanted people posting about how their hair broke up with them, and what to do if their hair is conservative, although I'm not sure why.

A) Because the phrases "reasonable responses" and "Chit-Chat" are, generally speaking, mutually exclusive. That being said, I very nearly did place it in Chit-Chat to begin with.
B) Your post, which is otiose, is proof positive of the soundness of my logic.
C) Why do you care?

As much as I hate to admit it given my hot and cold attitude toward ol' Leo, I think you've won the prize. Also, I have 'burns and a royale, but last night I "set the stage" for a full beard. Well struck, sir!:D

Get a "business man" it's like a pompadour, but do a side part and comb the front back/teased up a little bit. Also called an "ivy league" or a "college boy". That's what I've been wearing for the past two or three years.

That's a good idea as well. I've looked it up, and I may ask the stylist to do that... I have really baby fine hair, though, so I dunno if it'll work. If not, the do Nin suggested will probably be my default.
As an aside, the one you're talking about would probably go better with a beard I think. It'd look less mountain mannish.

It can definitely be worn with a well groomed beard. And you live in norcal right? There are some really good traditional style barbershops up there with you punk/hardcore types cutting hair.

A) Because the phrases "reasonable responses" and "Chit-Chat" are, generally speaking, mutually exclusive. This is nearly accurate in an absolute sense, but I was speaking in a relative one, given that you were in any case going to post upon Revleft.
B) Your post, which is otiose, is proof positive of the soundness of my logic.Something needn't be a singularity to be dense, as is indeed proved by the multiplicity of your responses.

I'd been doing that for nearly a decade prior to this past year, on and off. It was time for a change.
At any rate, if anyone cares, I took cmoney's suggestion and hit up a barber shop over the weekend. I gotta say I'm pretty pleased with the results. Thanks, homey!

Awesome dude! I have to go get a trim myself, tomorrow, thinking about getting the part shaved in though. So it would look like this:

See, I don't need the part shaved for it to look like that. About eight years ago I got in a car wreck that necessitated 10 staples in my head, creating a scar that forms a permanent left side part in my hair, lol... At any rate, I think you should do it. Looks dope to me.

The only time I would call somebody lucky for being in a car accident! Haha I like the way it looks but having it shaved in means a lot of upkeep, I'd have to get a trim every week.

Haha Yeah, when I was working/living in Austin I came into work one day with it 2-guarded all over and one of the Guatemalan dudes there was all, "You look like un hombre malo, Chivo!" (They [my Latino coworkers] called me Chivo because I wore a chinstrap beard at the time, lulz...)
Fair point about upkeep. I'd still do it though. If it gets to be a nuisance, stop, lol. It's just hair. It'll grow back.
