In the States he is relatively unknown but when I went to France, every cab driver was jamming to Chao.

My Italian friend is obsessed with the guy and I hear he is big in Spain too.

Is he big in Eastern Europe? A supposed big time Eastern European director made a documentary about him and directed one of his videos.

I know he is pretty well known in the Middle East too and a little in Africa.

What about the UK? Ireland? No offense, but for some reason I could see a lot of Britons or Northern Europeans finding him annoying. I know this is probably a gross generalization but if I couldn't see Americans getting that much into him, I couldn't see them either. IDFK, please prove me wrong.

I've heard Manu Chao played in a "hipster bar" in Beijing in '09. as far as I know he's not popular in China, the bar seemed to be a hipster clone place probably modeled after bars in Ibiza.

Mau Chao is popular with my leftist friends in the US.He's popular with Hispanic immigrants in the Boston area.

I've even heard that Manu Chao has a small but pretty numerous following in Japan but that's the extent of his presence in Asia from what I've read.

Dude, I was passing by a Chipotle the other day and they were playing Manu Chau. Idk if it was the Chipotle mix, or some Sirius radio or just an employee's music. I. Don't. Know.

Don't get me wrong, I totally been digging Manu Chau for a while now, but Chipotle. It makes me sad. :(

What are his political views?
Supports immigrants rights, zapatistas, and is a feminist. I gather this from his song lyrics, though, never actually read or seen an interview. Perhaps someone could elaborate?

I have no idea what you just said. The last sentence was the least coherent thing I've read all day. Could you elaborate?
