I made an entertaining calculation about Alberta - without the tar sands, the province's house of cards economy will more or less fall apart in 5-8 years from exhausting its oil reserves. The tar sands are also 95%* of the country's oil and boost the share of canadian oil held by Alberta from 35 to 98%. He suppressed the BC moratorium on oil tankers (according to the Government of Harperland it never existed) and pumps cash into Alberta's tar sands (at the tune of enough money to cancel out the province's equalization payments, lol). "The west", as usual, just means Alberta. And it's as usual about oil.
I'm not surprised the local tories are that desperate.
*Interestingly, Alberta claims that there's 300 years of oil in them, but even assuming we don't pump more than we do right now, they'll peak in 50-100 years at best based on proven reserves.

The problem with tar sand is that, unlike Oil rig, the more you dig, the more you have to spend money to dig deeper and deeper and deeper, it require energy and manpower. That why they need subventions, beccause without it they wouldnt be able to operate it at an efficient level of profitability to compete with the middle east.
and now with the corporate tax cut even less of this dirty profit will come into our pocket to finance our services in dire need of being revamped.
Harper is insanely insane.
