Last year I saw some guy on Al Jazeera talking about the economic crisis we're in here in Ireland and was intrigued. His name is Robin Hahnel, one of the main proponents of the theory so I emailed him and we corresponded a couple of times. Interesting stuff. I haven't personally reached a conclusion on it and was just wondering whether anyone else had heard of Participism and your thoughts on it? Would link to it but as I'm a newbie here I can't. Just wiki it if you need a quick rundown. Thanks.

I hadn't come across the word before, but it makes sense on several levels. The main problem with this approach is that it often reduces workers, peasants and the unemployed as managers of austerity.

The best known example is Porto Alegre in Brazil. The Left here was divided on it. I thought it was at the very least a worthwhile experiment.
