Today I asked many people what day it was. Referring to victory day of course. After they couldn't guess I asked them if they knew what Victory day was. They were even more clueless when I asked that. I asked many kids today and not a single one of them had the slightest clue what Victory day was! I think part of the cause of kids being so ignorant these days of worldly events is this mindless consumerist culture of ours. Capitalism is this big brain dead mushy cesspool, this over saturation of stupid bullshit! Most kids hardly know what capitalism is (all they know is the global teacher said it's good.) let alone Socialism. What do you have to say about the shocking idiocy of todays culture? I thought WW2 was a fairly major event but clearly I was wrong, todays kids think of more important things like there Facebook status.

Remember, we live in a Post-Soviet Union world where Capitalism "won" and now we're currently living through the results of that "victory" of theirs with the world getting worse and worse every passing second that is.

I'm attending last year of italian high school... here ignorance gained a new level :/
Show them this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNEJ7qe1l8o&feature=related
(watch the entire video)
And add this: "Thats how would entire Eastern Europe look like, and probably entire Russia if not the entire world, and that would be just the start.."
The youth must understand the importance of the Victory against Nazism and Fascism.

Oh of course schools are full of ignorance. Up here in Canada they teach that Communism is 'totalitarian' and 'anti-democratic'. May Day, Victory Day, etc. are ignored completely.
Those who win the war write the history, and they've been writing us out of it for decades.

Victory Day is not really something we ever paid attention to. I sort of got the feeling it was a bigger deal in Eastern Europe than in the west.
I think you're confusing "ignorance" with "no one giving a fuck".

What do you have to say about the shocking idiocy of todays culture?I am quite glad that you are not representative of it.
In any case, I didn't know it was Victory Day, it was never something we paid any attention to in India. I don't really see why anybody should care about its being so, in any case. Today is Richard Feynman's birthday and the day when Deep Blue beat Kasparov, and while I can actually see reasons why people may be concerned about this, I don't have that much of a problem if they don't.

Most of schoolchildren today, at least here in Serbia, do not have an idea what Holocaust is. The cause is useless crap being taught at school and "harsh reality" being hidden from them. And than we say "warning from history"

Yes, my economics teacher would rant about the 'dirty Commies' and about how there isn't any freedom in Communism, how the State is everything that matters to Communists, and how it makes people dirt poor, that is, until I was his student (or teacher, rather). We had many long debates about it.
Also I must say that I laughed at your signature, because I just did that.:che:

We hear about WW2 a lot, so shouldn't victory day at least be mentioned!

I came to that realisation pretty early in my secondary school years.
It takes a considerable degree of patience to explain concepts like communism to my fellow kids of today that thrive on the obedient ignorance of consumerist capitalism and have cultivated some sort of desperate dependency on the idea of a state. God I hate the people in my school.
Coming to think of it, I'm pretty sure my history teacher was a Marxist, he always made sure to point out the errors abundant in the Russia section.
