Well, in order to find out of this is necessarily 'reactionary', we must look all the way back at Karl Marx's essays on this very subject. I suggest looking at "The reactionary position of Tony Soprano."

Yes. You should be whacked.

That's nothing, sometimes I want to be like Travis Bickle, from Taxi Driver.

Yes, wanting to be a fat tub of mafia shit is reactionary. Shame on you.

I on the other hand want to be Jean Luc Picard - the coolest fictional communist leader ever.

I on the other hand want to be Jean Luc Picard - the coolest fictional communist leader ever. The best communistic/post-capitalist fiction doesn't have leaders in the traditional sense, certainly not ones holding rank within a formalised military.

I'd personally absolutely love to be a ship Mind (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_%28The_Culture%29). I'd probably rejoice under the name "Where is your gravitas now."

Wouldn't call him a communist leader, but he's pretty cool.

I want to be like Tony Montana sometimes. But rather have a more appealing and not so end of my life, ending.

This is the first time I've heard of these wildly utopian novels!

Scenes like this are the only things worth watching on The Sopranos.

Word. "Open the pod bay doors, HAL." "I'm sorry, David."

Word. "Open the pod bay doors, HAL." "I'm sorry, David." That kind of goes against the whole concept of Culture Minds, though. They are pretty much HAL's opposite, even the ones that are noted for treating humans unethically and shunned for it fall some way short of the level of barbarism commoncly associated with "rogue AIs." </nitpickery>

On topic the desirability of a life in the mafia does occasionally come up amongst my friends but, by and large, the risks of being whacked, arrested or otherwise encountering unpleasantness seem to outweigh the potential of living off of cigars and cocaine. Barely, though.

Hah Dude, I know. Just joshin' ya. When it comes to people joking about my nerdier interests my usually keen sense of when someone is taking the piss or not seem to fall by the wayside.

Or maybe I'm just not nearly as funny as I think I am.

Tony Montana sucks. That accent was an insult to Cuban people everywhere. Worst acting job of Pacino's career (although Scent of a Woman was a close second), the guy was practically a cartoon character.

1. It was the 80s, so who the fuck cared? It made every little hispanic boy who saw it, want to become Tony Montana one day. :p

2. Take back Tony Montana sucks.
