Comrade Ahmad Sa'adat, the General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said in a statement on May 6, 2011, from his isolation cell in the occupation prisons, that he hoped the signing of a reconciliation agreement between Fateh and Hamas would lead to a comprehensive agreement among all factions and political and social forces to conclusively turn the page on division and lack of democracy forever.

Comrade Sa'adat greeted his daughter Sumoud on her birthday in the message, saying that her birthday comes at a time of great change and celebration in the Arab world and near International Workers' Day. He said that he hoped that this agreement would mark a new page in Palestinian national relations and a deepening level of democracy reflected in practice, to restore hope to our people and enhance their steadfastness and resistance to confront the occupation. He also expressed that complete democracy was necessary in order to rebuild Palestinian institutions - in particular the PLO - on the basis of democracy, national objectives, the right to return and the unity of our people.

Comrade Sa'adat praised all sincere efforts made to achieve this agreement by Palestinian forces, particularly Palestinian youth, and the Arab revolutionary movement, particularly the Egyptian revolutionary youth movement, and the new Egyptian government. He noted that this agreement is the fruit of the Egyptian revolution, and that he hoped to see the deepening of democracy and the liquidation of what remains of the old regime, and the establishment of a national democractic system that is capable of assuming responsibility and leadership in the Arab democratic national liberation movement, and playing a key role to unite the Arab nation and elevate its development in all areas.

Comrade Sa'adat also congratulated the Palestinian working class on the occasion of May 1, expressing his hope that the announcement of a national reconciliation agreement would also reflect progress toward rebuilding the General Union of Palestinian Workers as a militant national force to achieve their demands for freedom and dignity.

He stressed the need to support national reconciliation, stop media incitement, and free all political prisoners and detainees and members of the resistance held in Palestinian jails, calling for this to be implemented immediately as a necessary step to provide a meaningful basis for reconciliation.
