I'm not really in a place to say whether or not theres a rape culture in the US cause I'm a straight dude not in prison. I do have to say, when some people on here talk about constant fear of being raped, I'm guessing you're either exaggerating or paranoid as fuck. I live in a neighborhood that's supposed to be violent and I'm not in constant fear of violence, or really in fear of violence like 95% of the time. Also I'm not sure about the whole saying rape colloquially perpetuates rape thing, I mean I personally don't say it cause it's tasteless and immature but I think the comparison to saying "Our team just got murdered" is pretty good. I've lost some friends to shootings and whatnot but that doesnt bother me at all, personally. It seems exaggerated, like on some Tipper Gore shit saying that rap causes urban violence and metal causes school shootings.

Um, well, there is only one way to say it: views on the subject, specifically how you perceive the threat of rape, is going to depend on gender.

Rape culture does not cause rape. Rape culture makes the majority of the population feel as if rape is okay. As if it is something that should be taken lightly. People either feel that the victim deserves it (the but she was dressed that way argument Here (http://www.revleft.com/vb/talk-talk-and-t152616/index.html?t=152616&highlight=Toronto+Police)) which hurts the victims and puts them in constant threat of violence. And also it perpetuates the myth that rape "isn't that bad". As opposed to murder which is universally acknowledged to be terrible.
