Isn't anti white a bit extreme? Anti the man I think would be more appropriate.

BTW they got arrested a few days ago:

When is their new album coming out?

Hampton
30th September 2003, 21:10
I think they got dumped from their label or they don't want to release it so they are tying to release it independatly some time soon.

I think it drops Oct. 21st.

i hope the new one's a little better than the last one. turn off the radio. it was OK but ok was not what i was expecting from them. have you heard their new songs from red hot and riot and also on eryca badu's new cd. the red hot and riot song with Talib (i'm listening to it right now) is damn good. the otherone i'm not so sure about, only listened to it once briefly.

You're probably thinking of the Dead Kennedys.

I should add that there's a group called The Coup which is better than Dead Prez, subjectively on the level of their rhymes and flow and certainly on the level of their politics. The Coup's message focuses much more on class tensions than racial tensions, and Boots Riley just has some fucking brilliant lines.

In all fairness, Dead Prez has better beats and they have some cool samples, like in "Police State". But yeah, they're both really good. Check out these songs by the Coup for starters:

-5 Million Ways to Kill a CEO
-Lazymuthafucka
-Me and Jesus the Pimp in a '79 Grenada Last Night
-Get Up (this song is great, both the Coup and Dead Prez)
-Everythang
-Ghetto Manifesto

I'm not trashing Dead Prez, but The Coup is much better music for Marxists.

Dead Prez are NOT anti-white, end of story.

I can't comment on all the aforementioned artists, but m&m? Biggie, is that the "notorious BIG"? If so uugghh!

Checkout Michael Franti & Spearhead (www.spearheadvibrations.com) or Steve Zearle (www.zearle.com/)for "keeping it real".
Oh and the Iron Shiek (www.ironsheik.biz/) does some good shit from the Palestinian perspective.

Yes m&m is certainly one of the "illest", I'll bet mtv says so. I believe Vanilla Ice was also quite the "Ill MC" at one time.

Before you give me a "thumbz down" you might consider turning off the tv and whatever crappy radio station you listen to and go on a quest for some good hip hop if that is your preferred form of music. The good stuff is out there you just have to look for it and you won't find it on mtv.

In radical Hip-Hop, I guess I'd have it be a triangle.

You've got-
The Coup- mostly class struggle
Paris- Mostly Anti-Government/Anti-Bush
X-Clan- Anti-White
Dead Prez would seem to be in the middle.

X-clan is more a joke though, since a white label (Tommy Boy iirc) endorssed them. Paris is pretty good, but unless he's changed on his latest album, he's mostly get some lite Islamic elements (very lite) and is mostly talking about killing cops and being the "Bush Killa" (a song worth downloading).

Juju, is your icon that of Ricanstruction?

How can you compare EMINEM to VANILLA ICE?? Vanilla Ice was a GIMMICK...Eminem Is a TRUE MC, he's a lyrical wizard and he has proven this in his earlier hip hop battles...The only thing Eminem and Vanilla Ice have in common is the obvious, THEY'RE BOTH WHITE. Eminem actually puts out QUALITY music.

Eminem has contributed so much to Hip Hop...I hate when people diss him just because he's a white boy with bleached blonde hair. If you're not a black hip hop artist, people shit on you, just like they did Big Pun (who's another Ill MC)

Anyways... Word, Hampton, that song "Runnin 03" with Biggie and Tupac that Eminem produced is FIYAH!!...when i heard the chorus...I was like "The fuk does Eminem know about soulful singers ?" ...He got that track off. The beat is hot, the chorus is hot and he chose the right verses to go with the beat. Dre has taught him well.

eminem is good but you have to put that into context. he's OK, not great. he just seems great in that sea of *****es and wack niggers that are in hip-hop these days. yeah, i'm talking about puffy, i'm talking about nelly and those hos from st. louis, i'm talking about 50 who sounds like hes got the same speech impediment as mace.

these days in hiphop you got two camps-

the okplayer crowd- the only group of real MCs

and

everyone else- of who there is only a couple decent people. dead prez being one who stands out. also nas, big, Kool Keith (thats my motherfucka), 2pac, Rakim, outkast, and don't forget beastie boys and wu tang, TCQ, KRS-ONE, slick rick, also i really liked Shyne though not the music that puffy made for him or the way he had to take the fall for puffy and his (former)*****

the okplayer crowd for those of you who don't know i consider artists who are signed with that label or who often work with that label they are-

Talib Kweli --by far the best mc on the mic
Mos def
Common -- thats also my motherfucka
The Roots --vibe called ?uest
eryca badu --works with the above alot
hi-tek --check out his work with Kweli -reflection eternal

between the coup and dead prez i'd have to choose dead prez. i love the coup but dead prez just turns me on more you know? and those songs about discipline and eating right just fucking kill me. i love to play those for people who've never heard of real conscious hip hop before, they get the funniest fucking look on their face. mind-sex too, that it'll get in good with any girl if you play it/do it for her.

Hip hop= teh 5ux0rz.

Rap is nonesense, and eminem is just trying to look for attention and be a "shocker" the way Marylin Manson was. But at least he has some new ideas. Look at his MTV videos as opposed to some by some other "artists" like "Fiddy" cent (nothing more than an ape, he is disgusting in every way imaginable). 50 can't EVEN rap. Rhyming "birfday" with birfday is not what i call talent. Even anthony kiedis could do better than that

Most rap videos are just a bunch of similarly clothed assholes surrounded by scantily clad ladies. THATS ALL. And usually in a club setting, or street, to maximize the "coolness."

Disgusting. BTW, i hate eminem. All of those idiots are a shame to modern music. However, i respect some old schoolrap, they had originality, and even some had talent.

ComradeJunichi
1st October 2003, 20:28
I disagree, I still consider rap a music. Ofcourse, hiphop is music. Even when I listen to it I want to start jamming. However, I am getting sick of MOST hip hop videos. Whenever I am changing the channel (when History Channel has commercials) I have to flick through a bunch of ass and titties. Frankly, I dont' want that shit on my TV. It's uncomfortable with my family around, it's something I don't want my little sister rolling into or other children as well. It's just innapropriate, they might as well make it a fucking porno channel. There are music videos and then theres softcore porn, they're SEPERATE things, people!

However, I must say some videos are amazing. For example, I loved the Black Eyed Peas video of Where Is The Love (I think that's what it's called). I really like that song, it's very strong and emotional.

I enjoy old school rap, however most new shit (that I've heard, which is not a lot) is really bad. We all have different tastes however, so that was just my insight on it.

Umoja
1st October 2003, 21:13
I was listening to the Funk Flex show on Hot97 (wqht New York) and a guy was talking about how hip-hop is in it's third stage. The first hip-hop was only East Coast, mostly New York stuff. That was the "good stuff", "ol'school" and all that jazz. Some of it still comes out, mostly loose social commentary, or rapping for fun. Then you had the hard core West-Coast rap emerge in the late 80's and catch on hard core until it started to fizzle out after Tupac died. West Coast rap focused mainly on being a gansta, not fronting but actually having grown up on the streets. This wasn't all that far from the truth with Crack having come into numerous black areas around the country. Also after Tupacs death, crack became less of a "cool thing to sell" and the gangsta image become pretty pathetic.

In the mid-to-late 90's is when you had Southern Rap emerge. It's the predominant style right now, and is what most people imagine when they think of modern rap. Drugs (the real dumb kinds like E), Bling-Bling, drinking, Black women who don't respect themselves, Platinum Teeth, and all that good stuff. That's the main problem, especially because this eclipses the more conscious east coast rap that still comes out. Especially with many older rappers adapting to the Southern Rap style (Jay-Z comes to mind) or with rappers becoming to commericial (Dr. Dre, and P. Diddy). A long way from grandmaster flash wearing a studded bracelet and tight pants.

you didn't understand. yes, the rest of us hate mainstream rap too, and there is almost no mainstream hip-hop. when you look past MTV, you'll see a lot of cool cats with a lot of talent. i can't believe your basing your opinion of a whole music genre/lifestyle on what you saw on MTV, thats pretty fucking lame.

I have seen many who subscribe to this gangster lifestyle nonesense. I am surrounded by it. I am not making a totally outrageous assumption. Which is funny because last time I checked blacks weren't an overwhelming amount of people who posted in the topic or on the board in general and it looks like they are the only ones who use the slang that is has been attached to rap music.

In regards to my "smart ass comment", it was only in response to yours. And I don't remember the first time I brought my comment on this board, I didn't even mentioned it on yours, I mentioned it to other members who in turn decided to mention it to you because they cared about your board.

I'm sorry that the lump on your dick has become bigger than your shaved head and the brain it contains.

But I'm just a Nigger, so don't worry about what I wrote.

First, I'm not a racist.

Second, just because i'm typing in ebonics about my rap tastes doesn't mean i'm being racist. There was no need for you witty remark.

Third, everyone was posting in ebonics so I was too. So, you point at me for being racist?

Fourth, I don't get the last thing you said.

Fifth, you have a good sense of humor.

Sixth, when I said the No No Word I was using it the simple term to piss you off. I wasn't calling you that.

Seventh, is after sixth and

Eighth is after seventh.

Ninth, you suck.

get stomped when you say the No No Word
where the fuck are you livin at. where i'm from and definately in the music i listen to that word has no negative connotation at all. hell last week when i was home one of my white friends said something to my dad like, 'your daughter's new boyfriend is one of my friends from middle school, yeah that's my nigger charles.'' and my dad laughed his ass off. which was different cause his generation had a bad view of that word, where as ours it is a term of affection. well i say ours, i don't know how old you guys are, i'm 20.
it seems some people i know treat that word like their own little secret society thing. 'we can say it to others but if one of those crackers calls me a nigger, ooohhh they better watch out cause i am beating that ass'
i think that's some stupid powertripping secret handshake bullshit. a word should not be taken differently by someone just because of that person(the person saying the word)'s race. THAT seems racist to me. anyway that word can mean a hundred different things depending on the ways its used.

just because some white guy says the No No Word doesn't mean he's a racist, far from it. would a real racist say that? no. you got to watch out for the ones who are really afraid of that word because i've found that they are the ones who REALLY SEE the difference in color. I don't mind when a white person uses that word if i'm around some of my black friends, it shows me that THEY DONT see a difference in color, its like they don't even notice. like were all EQUAL. thats cool with me. let it be cool with you too. don't make it a big deal that junichi said it, cause it isn't a big deal. at least thats how i see it.

peace and love to all revolutionaries. fuck all them other fools

Alejandro C
2nd October 2003, 07:18
though that was a pretty fucking stupid thing to say junichi, especially that talk about ebonics. you don't have to talk a certain way to like a style of music and not all people that talk that way are black. class systems, not race systems.

Exploited Class

I edited the word mostly out of this thread. The word isn't really acceptable on the board.

BTW, in case people didn't know this, you aren't less of a person if you appologize. If you use a word that has the jury out on whether or not it is appropriate to say in mix company and people take offense to it, you lose 0 pride points if you just say "Sorry, I didn't mean for anybody to take offense to it." But saying it again several times to piss somebody off, is not appropriate by any means. You don't use a word strongly associated with hate to piss people off, unless you want to be lumped together with other members of OI. Restricted Accounts can and are handed out daily.

If you find it socially acceptable to say with your friends or your friend's fathers, then please say it to them all you want. Please just remember people laugh at funny things as well as flat out stupid things. A white boy in suburbia America using the word has to be one of the stupidest jump on the wagon of stupidity things I have ever heard. But then again, I am sure he earmed it when he got on the bus in Alabama and had fire hoses used on him while being beaten by batons.

Maybe it is acceptable to say when you are 20 because everybody else is saying it, and perhaps when you are 20 jumping off a building means freeing oneself and perhaps everybody else is doing it so that makes it okay. I still call it suicide and I wouldn't do it even if everybody else is doing it.

This is the music forum people, keep it lite and respect the fact that you may step on toes of others on in a while.

ComradeJunichi

Understood, I stand corrected.

First of all, as you can tell I was a bit out of it the other day. I wasn't drunk or anything, but I did do some stuff. Yep.

Second, I will apologize for my behavior. I am no racist, which is quite obvious except perhaps when I'm high I am! No, I'm just kidding again.

I rarely say the term 'no-no word', infact I never do. The ebonics thing was just a joke, I already went through this before. Everyone wanted me banned because I typed a post in ebonics when I was talking about rap. I don't see how that's racist. If I was all about white-power and I was mocking you guys, yes that would be out of line. However, I was simply joining everyone and talking about some rap groups I liked. Why is everyone so dead serious on the issue? This board has banned all the racists and nazis, so what is there to be so worried about? It's not like any of us are racists, infact all of us are anti-racists. When one of us say the 'nono term' we all know he or she doesn't mean it.

Gook, gook, gook, gook, gook, gook, gook, gook. I'm not a racist and I'm not filled with self-hate. That word means nothing to me no does the 'nono word'. They are outdated words and within us (anti-racist comrades) it means nothing but a pile of shit (please don't misunderstand this again. I'm saying the term itself is nothing but shit, not the people).

BXs Prophet, I'm not a tough guy online. I'll PM you my home address if you like, meet me here. I live in Great Neck, or if you don't know the directions perhaps the city would be better. Don't talk about stomping with me, because I'll boot your ribs inside out.

I agree with most of what Alejandro said but I also agree with Exploitd Class in many ways. I was wrong to do that, especially on this forum. If I was to do something like that I suppose I should have chose a different way or just not say it at all. I am opposed to all forms of racism and honestly, what I said wasn't meant to be a form of racism. It was a form to get Hampton's Black Panther on Speed (I'm just kidding Hampton, I love you) off my ass.

"Yo son, what be trackin round yo hood theze dayz? 'nono word' s be trippin round mah block like whoa"

That is not racism but that's not me either. I don't talk in ebonics but sometimes it's really fun to hang out with black (or African-American if Black is too racist for you) and talk about rap. They like shit like 50 cent and eminem, but I like stuff like Public Enemy and Dead Prez. Am I being racist? Ofcourse not, if you'd pay attention to any of the other stuff in this thread you'd see I respect the subculture. (interesting note, I used to be a hip hopper back in the day! :P )

I suppose my sense of humor should stay to myself.

Forgive me :) *hug*

UN fortunately this flag is about to be a collectors item. in 2005 they're gonna put in a different flag that looks alright but is very... soft. especially compared with the kick ass flag they got now. the new flag comes when the elections start i think, or maybe when someone wins. i've got a 4 foot by 8foot coming to me in the mail though, so its allright.

No I haven't downloaded it. I'll look around for it though.

I see some cool advertising for Nike though

I'd listen to the song but I already know what the guy sounds like and I don't like it. How is he any less "bling bling"? then oh so many other crappy hip hoppers?

I submit that people don't diss him so much because he is white but that he is given way more slack because he is white. His race to me is not the issue. I like some white hip hop.

Okay I'm listening to it now, meh. His voice is really horrible, and I don't mean that in a good way. Can't touch PE or Franti, or Steve Zearle. Check him out now. www.zearle.com You can DL lots of his stuff for free.

I have their CD in my player as I type this. I love their music, but I think sometimes they are a little TOO African Nationalist, ignoring the class issue all together. Another hip-hop band that I love, despite their overt communism (I'm an anarchist) :-) is The Coup. You should really check them out.
