Andrei Alexandrovich Zhdanov

I was reading a number of war-time orders issued by Stalin,some reports written by Molotov,and a number of notes made by Zhdanov (mostly on the situation in Leningrad). And i got interested in finding out more about him;

1) Zhdanov was Chairman of the RSFSR Supreme Soviet 20 July 1938–20 June 1947
2) During World War II, Zhdanov was in charge of the defence of Leningrad. After the cease-fire agreement between Finland and the USSR was signed in Moscow on 4 September 1944, Zhdanov directed the Allied Control Commission in Finland until the Paris peace treaty of 1947.
3)During 1946–1947, Zhdanov was Chairman of the Soviet of the Union,During 1946, Zhdanov was appointed by Joseph Stalin to direct the Soviet Union's cultural policy
4) During 1947, he organized the Cominform, designed to coordinate the communist parties of Europe;

I also know that he had a drinking problem,which eventually probably impacted on his all ready ill health.
Stalin talked of Zhdanov as his successor,but due to his ill health others 'defeated' him.
And many more things,but i still do not have a clear stance on him and his policies: (zhdanovshchina). So,i would be grateful if you always active comrades could add up more information about him and his works:

And write what you generally think of him.

(Oh and yes,this is a question mainly for ML's)

I believe he was a good marxist-leninist, and would have been a good leader of the CPSU and the USSR.
