View Full Version : Anyone else pissed off at Wikileaks?

This whole thing makes me rage.

Bradley Manning I think is a real hero, he risked his balls and he is now paying the price.

Everything Assange and wikileaks has that is worth a damn came from Manning.

Can someone explain why it takes so long for them to release all these cables? It been over 6 months now with these diplomatic cables and its still "Currently released so far... 12218 / 251,287" So, less than 5% of the cables? WTF is this?

Assange is a joke, release the fukcing cables, fully and completely, do it now!

I will not be surprised when we learn of Assange and possible deals with American intell to censor or purge these documents.

The official site says of the cables "The embassy cables will be released in stages over the next few months. The subject matter of these cables is of such importance, and the geographical spread so broad, that to do otherwise would not do this material justice."

So what is he saying? We dont deserve to see everything now? We cant comprehend it? We need Assange to pick what to publish at the most opportune time? Was this the deal made with Manning? Did Manning ask for this tease? What is the real reason for this?

These documents have to be transcribed, IIRC. That takes quite a while to do.

Or are they already in digital form?

Thats a weak argument. As when the Tunisian events happened, BOOM!, they had cables on that country published, same goes for Egypt, Libya, Bin Laden, and anyone or anything that comes up in the news they have cables ready the next day.

If I were to accept this as true, does that mean I will have to wait 10 years for all the cables to be released?

They have money, they have manpower.

6 months for 15k cables

At this pace it would take 10 years for all cables to be released.

securing the long term interest in the site.

Does the site make money? if so how? If it's anything to do with how many hits they get then securing the long term sustainability of the site makes sense also if it's through donations it still makes sense. If they get a new source of information then I would expect them to release more.

Yeah, but in several years the information therein may become irrelevant due to whatever political changes may happen. They can do it faster, and they should. This is why I'm losing my trust in WikiLeaks.

I'd hesitate before throwing around such big words like "losing trust". It's not like they've got some fixed numbers of documents they'll release every 6 months. Who knows if they'll pick up the pace. I'd also not claim that WikiLeaks will strike a deal with Obama or something, since they've done nothing to deserve such a claim against them. On the contrary, WikiLeaks deserves nothing but respect for all their efforts, and I don't think we're in any position to criticize them when they've been working very hard at exposing the Amerikan regime.

What are you talking about?

Assange prides himself on running a 'not-for-profit' organization. Wikileaks has lots of donations and Assange himself has a million dollar book deal.

Are you saying you think this is being done to ensure a steady cash flow to line the pockets of the wikileaks crew? If so, I am disgusted.

Give us all the cables already. I just feel sorry Manning only gave these files to wikileaks, he should have given it to others as well.

If so, I am disgusted.I thought you hated Wikileaks, why have you suddenly changed your tune to defend them against minor slander? But seriously, you may or may not be aware that running a site like that costs a fair bit of money. It's not free. Thus they must make money, even if just to cover running costs.

Also you have to remember that they had hundreds of thousands of dollars seized when their bank account was frozen, so they will probably have to have another fundraising drive before they can upload more documents, buy more servers etc.

And perhaps Assange is using funds to pay for his lawyers, which I'm sure most wikileaks supporters would not oppose.

I didn't know that and that's why I posed it as a question and not a statement. Hence the ?'s

Yes that is exactly what I'm saying well kind of. Even if it's not for personal profit it would still maintain the long term interest in wikileaks, which is the goal of any organization, business or brand. Imagine if they'd released everything all at once there would have been an even larger surge of interest and then interest in the site would drop say in 5 years if they'd got nothing new people would be like "do you remember that site wikileaks and that guy Julian Orange whatever happened to them?" This way they stay in the news and build a larger base of regular people visiting the site.

You may very well be right. This Assange has struck me as a bit of a megalomaniac. Without the files provided by Manning he has nothing so it seems he would have an interest in dragging this out as long as possible.

Who cares about wikileaks or Assange? If not for the files in his possession, neither are worth a damn.

Its possible they are releasing them gradually because they worry if they released them all at once much of it would not be read. Who has the time to go through a huge swath of files like that?

The only thing I am upset about is that there is no analyzing of the cables by wikileaks. They just release them and they play right into the hands of the West.

The cables are obviously going to reflect indoctrinated diplomats with their bias and presupposed views of the world. So while some may make the US look bad, others make them look like they downplayed something that was of greater risk, so more support is needed.

There are benefits. If they had released Tunisia and Egypt cables before February, most people would have ignored them.

When you've finished reading all 12,218 cables released so far, then you'll have earned the right to complain.

My guess is they release them slowly, so each batch is considered. Furthermore, my understanding is they don't release anything a media organization hasn't published. The give thousands of documents to various media, and only post the ones the media posts. So, that sort of limits the quickness of their release schedule.

They should post them regardless, if they wish to make a serious claim to being a journalistic organization.

I don't mind them taking their time as long as they are all released.

Also, fuck Assange.
