Does anyone know roughly how many members the various Socialist/Communist parties in the USA have?
Dear America,
Thanks for the cash.
Sorry about your kids.

I'd estimate around 10,000 official members. That's all of the parties, SP-USA, CPUSA, PLP, SLP, etc.
The SP-USA has the most, by far.

I thought the ISO was the biggest? Maybe I've been misinformed...
So what are the PLP doing these days? anything?

I heard that the SP-USA had 5,000 members. Maybe I'm mis-informed.

Yeah, they mainly go to American Nazi Party rallies and get in fights with fascists. They have some good material on their site, but for the most part they are fanatics. They worship a false depiction of Stalin. There should be no worshipping happening.

Hell 5,000, 2,000 or 10,000 it is still way, way too small. Hell even the NRA has 4 million members. We are so outnumbered it is pathetic. What we need is a revolution to force people to believe what we believe. Sort of like Russia or Cuba.

but they did that with conditions that made the people see there point of veiw. majority of the people didn't agree with the government and wanted change. fidel never forced the people to believe during the revolution. they supported him because batista was oppressing the whole country.

its not about the figures thou, its where these people are.
remember the bolshevik revolution only had a party of 8000 members
2000 in february, then 8000 in october.
If these people are unnion leadrs then is much different than 8000 commie hippies

The PLP is insane. Yeah; they do fight Fascists a lot. That's the one good thing I can think about them. There was a Klan rally in my neighborhood (A block away, actually) and I ended up finding a bunch of PLP leaflets flying around. However, their politics are.... odd.

If I remember right... CPUSA is the biggest with around 2,500 members. SPUSA has 1,600. WWP - 600; ISO - 450, SWP - 350.

This has nothing to do with registered members but the information may interest you.
James E. Harris, the candidate for president in the 2000 presidential election had 7,354 votes while representing the Socialist Workers Party
Monica Moorehead (Workers World) had 4,795
David McReynolds (Socialist) had 4,194
There are more people who vote socialist parties than those who are members of the parties.

That is true... and in 1996 the Workers World Party candidate got 29,000 votes. That was the most votes a communist party got since Gus Hall's last run in 1984 (with 33,000 votes).
