Just wondering what everyone's impresion of designer clothing and some of the different labels out there. I know that the fashion industrie is prety sick, but I strongly belive clothing is an art form. In the future Communist world I dont want to wear a grey jump suit with numbers tatooed across my head. Rather I think that we will all have splendid clothing and be able to marvel in the wonder of human kind.
Guchi, Prada... Is it art or not?

I personally am not into fashion, especially expensive clothing. I typically buy jeans and T-shirts and really don't go out of my way to be "in style" because it's silly to me. I have a problem with clothing and show companies that use child labor, but in many cases that is unavoidable. I mean, I'd like to own a Prada blouse, a Gucci dress, a Coach purse, and a pair of Manolos. I don't think fashion is a crime, but I don't it should be what humankind focuses on. I also think that as leftists, we shouldn't believe it necessary to wear the most expensive clothing. We're supposed to be beyond that...

I wear black tee-shirts, and jeans almost exclusively. I have no love for clothing.

Right now I am wearing old school Dunlop Volleys (Australian's will know them well... their dad will have a pair of them from the 70's), jeans that are frayed at the bottom and sorta held together at the bottom with safety pins, black suspenders (I never wear them over the shoulder, just let them hang around my arse), white shirt...
The pinnacle of fashion.

fashion is the epidomy of capitalist society. It represents so cleanly what we stand against that a bigger hatred of it could not be expressed.

No, what we should be against is greed. So a fashion company that rakes in Billions at the expense of small children in Taiwan is the problem.
Everyone has something that they are interested in.
SOme people enjoy fashion so that can be their own personal enjoyment.
I enjoy books so if I want to spend ridiculous amounts of my own money on books it's my choice.
Or if you enjoy video games and you want to spend that money on video games it's your choice.
So if you like nice shoes then you spend your money on shoes.
Now I personally don't see the joy in buying shoes but everyone has a right to buy what they want
The problems are.
1. When people become obsessed with material items
2. When companies rake in inconcieveable amounts of money
3. when these companies opress workers.
There is no problem with enjoying things that you like, and it isn't fair to penalize people for this

There is nothing wrong with looking good, I like to dress nice.
However if I think i can dress nie wearing something I bought from a fuckin grocery store I'd buy it.
The price of the clothes doesn't matter it's how you look in them

Their should be no problem with fashion. but it should all be nearly the same price. Fashion should not be used to expressed how advantaged you are, your class, or how much money you have, but should reflect your own personal style. Further more, ppl these days became what they wear, the things they own, own them...it's rediculous.

everyone says im dressed from the 80s, i have the jean jacket wif the Red Fist and Che and Pink Floyd and Pantera Rage Against the Machine and Alice in Chains (YES U DO NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING :P ) but to me style is w/e the hell i think it is. I wear Che shirts, and i think its okay to wear a shirt with Che on it, helps me get people to the Red Side (u get it? u get it? instead of dark? aah ur no fun) and VANS! they dont use sweat shops do they? damn Nike does, pisses me off when some1 buys me Nikes

I totaly agree that fasion isnt about the label's, its all how you make it look. If your look is the 80's metal look rock it hard, because thats probably what intrests you. Or if you dress like a Militant go with that, but I just dont want us to all wear uniforms after the rebelion. I just get alot of jive from my communist friends for the way I dress sometimes.

fashion pisses me off. it seems, at the very least, shallow and petty. i also despise the labour practices of many major clothing producers. i tend to buy clothes only very occasionally, at second hand shops or at markets.
my actions define who i am, not my jeans (maybe my genes??? :) ). i can see that groups of similar people dress in a similar matter, so they can spot each other, but i also think it is dangerous to judge a book by its cover.
at the mo i am wearing some cheap sneakers (prob sweatshop), light green pants and an anti nuke shirt (black and yellow).

I know the feeling, most of those guys are so dogmatic on what it means to be a leftist. As if a leftist can't have an individual style

Im for Freedom, so of course I would never want to see any expressions oppressed...
Fashion is tight, its nice to look nice..
The problem i have is things that cost the same to make, but one costs WAYY more than the other because of the "Brand".. to me thats bullshit..
if anything, i think there should be a maximum profit percentage that can be added to the cost of the product.. ie. if it costs $1.00 to make a shirt, sell it for $2.00 .. 100% profit.. not sell it for $22.95 and make a rediculous profit..

Nothing wrong with designer clothes in the way (s)he means it. Designer clothes is an artform. It's the capitalistic exploitation which you're all against. Just like the music-industry is beeing exploited, but none have said that they are against music.
Anyway I think that the revolution and the leftist struggle should have priority above designer clothes now.
I myself am not interrested in designer clothes, but other are and let them.

I'd say more on the lines of 500 - 1000 %
There is nothing wrong with wearing labels as long as you don't have the mentality that you are better than someone else 'cause you wear more expensive clothing.
Does anybody know of designer labels that exploit workers. Much of Armani, Versace, Boss, are made in Italy not Taiwan, right? or are they made in sweatshops?

Oh, you people should drop by my side of town one day...We have entire fucking industries in the illegal retail of anything from fake Gucci's to locally-made Nike flipflops (all orignial, but stolen, er, shipped directly from the factories).
The latest in fashion is very affordable here in Asia, it's just a matter of whether or not you want the real thing, or several standard deviations from it...

very sexy. suspenders hanging unused for some reason are very sexy. i like suspenders. for some reason i like safety pins too. i wear them as earrings sometimes. i use them to keep my necklaces on. i use them to pin the edges of my oversized tam together. i found a piece of fabric and wore it as a skirt pinned on with safety pins. they're quite useful. but i hate it when poseurs put them all over the place just to look badass.
right now i'm wearing some dark blue men's vans in size 6 1/2 that i haggled with the lady at the register for because they were on the sales rack in a box that said 24.99 and she rung them up as 39.99 and i raised a ruckus about false advertising and got them for 24.99 (plus tax). i also have on these khakis that my friend gave me that she wears no more. they're a bit big and make me look like i have no ass but i'm over it. i have on a light grey longsleeve longjohn shirt and over it, a flogging molly shirt with the sleeves and the collar cut off. so it's a bit vest-like.
my philosophy on fashion is this: wear whatever the fuck makes you feel beautiful as long as it's not made in a sweatshop

ah! i LOVE the pirates! in brazil we had a bunch of those. pirated cds, pirated shoes, jeans, shirts, EVERYTHING. i got a really hot fake pair of zoomp jeans for 20 reais as opposed to 70-110 at the mall.
