The U.S. is just capitalist; the economy is controlled by owners of private property, workers do not control the means of production, and all sorts of other litmus tests that elude me at the moment.

The U.S. is only a mixed economy in the sense that it's partly private sector, partly public sector. Public sector isn't the same as socialist, however, especially when that public sector doesn't even pose a threat to private property.

You can only have one or the other. Private control or worker control of the means of production and political power.

Liberal capitalism and social democracy is what you are thinking of.

there is no real pure capitalist system, except maybe in Somalia, a real exemple of completely free, unregulated market.

the Us is a Mixed economy, depending of the states, some services are public, other are privatized, mainly privatized these day due to the economic crisis.

When the us will become like Somalia, well lets just say the dream of many corporatist will become reality and the us will truly be capitalist.

A mixed economy is a capitalist economy. The state HAS to intervene in the economy in some way for capitalism to even function - a pure free market wouldn't even last a year, that's how unstable capitalism is. As danyboy25 said an example of a pure, unregulated market is somalia.

Yeah, when they say mixed economy they mean a regulated market capitalist economy. Some might say it mixes factors of socialism and capitalism, but that is based on a complete misunderstanding of what socialism actually is. Most economists are fucking idiots.

The Tea Party fucks should be encouraged to move to Somalia then. You always hear them nonsensically convey to leftists and even Democrats in the USA to move to the DPRK or Cuba if they like government intervention and socialism so much.

Everything is a mixed economy, that being said, the AMerican economy and the Norwegian economy can both be called mixed economies but their natures are vastly different.
