House votes to restrict unions

Measure would curb bargaining on health care

April 27, 2011

House lawmakers voted overwhelmingly last night to strip police officers, teachers, and other municipal employees of most of their rights to bargain over health care, saying the change would save millions of dollars for financially strapped cities and towns.
The 111-to-42 vote followed tougher measures to broadly eliminate collective bargaining rights for public employees in Ohio, Wisconsin, and other states. But unlike those efforts, the push in Massachusetts was led by Democrats who have traditionally stood with labor to oppose any reduction in workers’ rights.
Unions fought hard to stop the bill, launching a radio ad that assailed the plan and warning legislators that if they voted for the measure, they could lose their union backing in the next election. After the vote, labor leaders accused House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo and other Democrats of turning their backs on public employees.

Maybe the unions will finally wake up soon and stop supporting Democrats? I wonder what Michael Moore and others who praised the glorious 14 Wisconsin Democrats have to say now...

If the GOP had done this particular thing this thread would be on page 3 by now. It's not just the unions who are pro-Democrat, but the vast majority of the US left as well.

It's not just Massachusetts. Cuomo in New York and Brown in California are also pushing to restrict collective-bargaining power for public workers. And let's not forget that Obama got this ball rolling with the two-year pay freeze for federal employees.

It actually took about 6 hours to get the first wisconsin thread to two posts.

Also, Rhode Island has been considering the same, but the governor is an ex GOP who was driven out for being too liberal so I'm not sure whether this counts as yet one more case of liberal backstabbing :p

This is the second thread on this issue. There was only a short response it as well, but I don't think it is fair say that US Left here is pro-democrat.

To be honest, stepping all over the unions kinda makes me sick.
