ok, so i was playing with an idea. marches and rallys are almost always better with some motivational music.

now, marching bands arent always available so, i was thinknig of picking something up and learning a few simple, classic songs.

stuff like the warschawjanka/a las barricadas, the internationale, we shall overcome, and i dont know what else.

nothing military, just militant and popular.

so, what would be a good(and easy to learn) instrument for this if i ever decided to?

also, post brass instrument versions of left songs!

Saxophone and clarinet! I don't really know if they are easy in comparison to other wind instruments, but they are my favorite ones to play. Also, the reeds and instruments are really expensive... also, they sound awful if you haven't practiced them for more than a couple years. Maybe a brass instrument would be better.

Yeah, trumpet would be sick. Pretty compact and packs a strong sound. But from what I've heard it's a lot harder than humming. You'll get the hang of it with practice, though. I've always like the French Horn, but to me it sounds more "concert hall" and less "street" than trumpet for some reason.

stuff like this would probably make a march more energized.

trumpet is an instrument that can take years of practice to get the hang of -- mouth harp is pretty simple to learn, for keeping tune or rhythm even -- and there are some who've taught themselves the banjo or fiddle in no time. "We Shall Overcome" is best sung, one thinks!

Well I played the Saxophone in middle school and it didn't take a lot to learn. I had more trouble learning to buzz my lips with the trumpet. Try playing a woodwind. Aside from the Flute and Piccolo(I have no experience with them), an instrument with a reed is easy to play.

Not quite. Put your lips together like you're pronouncing "M". Then push air through your lips so they buzz and you spit everywhere. This is how a trumpet works.

Instruments with a higher pitch carry better in marches. Things like piccolos or penny whistles.

Or, you can get drums and bagpipes. They'll certainly make a racket.

Indeed.

The volume of penny whistles varies greatly, so always have a play before you buy if possible (and don't go for conical). For beginners at wind they are the best instrument. You can't ignore a picc, but they're hard to learn (you need to play a flute first really unless you're going to put a lot of effort in) and the high pitch isn't everyone's taste (as I've learnt). Bagpipes give you an eccentricity factor and will catch everyone's attention, and can outplay even a picc, but walking at a good pace and playing isn't doable for long.
