Why do so many Americans think that:

1) The American southwest is crumbling? People think California as a state is worse off than say Mississippi, whom by the way ranks 48-50 in nearly every statistical category. Or that parts of Arizona are in chaos. Mexican drug cartels run parts of the state Ive heard. What the fuck are these people talking about? Statistcally speaking, yet again, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency and the FBI, both indicate that both the number of illegal crossers and violent crime in general have actually decreased in the past several years. So again, what the fuck are these gullible people talking about?

2)Obama is: A Muslim. A Kenyan. A communist. A socialist. A anticrhist. A hater of America. A liberal. Etc, He's everything of course except for what he truly is, a capitalist bureaucrat seeking gains for the wealthy.

3) Think of the Confederate army or nation in glorious terms. Really? You're going to hold in high esteem a state structure which allowed humans to own and otherwise treat other humans as property and nothing more? Thats pretty fucking sick, no wonder were fucked. Which leads to my next point.

4) Hold the American revolution in unmerited praise? Or make that even idealized praise, dressing up like founders, and acting like them, and talking of tyranny blah blah. As the CSA in point 3, the American revolution institutionalized further slavery as well. It even encouraged it. And the founders themselves, those signatures on our highly esteemed constitution, were slave owners. Do I even have to bring up the American natives to further make a point? This kind of leads into my next point too.

5) Think that America is so exceptional? Really? Many times I've heard people say 'oh since Reagan,' or 'since Woodrow Wilson,' or anybody else, America has gone down hill. But not it hasn't. Its always been the same. "But such a person lived in a log cabin." So what? You can be from lower class ancestry and be just as bourgeois if not worse than the born-into bourgeoisie!! America was founded by elitist bankers and agricultural 'lords' so to say. Not to say that they founded capitalism, they simply cut off an artery to the UK. For mainly, selfish reasons. And today, America is run by the wealthy and corporations and banks. JUST LIKE THE FOUNDERS HAD WANTED!!!!

Im always shocked at the quantity and 'quality' of people who hold such beliefs. People at my university, at my work, in the opinion section of my newspaper, on the radio, on the internet, every fucking where. Its so pervasive its almost scary. Why?

They don't, they are just racists who do not want to be ''under a black man''. I do not think that any of the racist and righting scum believe the nonsense they go on about, they know damn well that he was born in the USA and is a Christian.

Too much CNN/FOX News, and probably every other mainstream media outlet on TV, Radio, etc.

2)Obama is: A Muslim. A Kenyan. A communist. A socialist. A anticrhist. A hater of America. A liberal. Etc, He's everything of course except for what he truly is, a capitalist bureaucrat seeking gains for the wealthy.

Because he is? LOL Just kidding, except he is half Kenyan. The rest is CNN, FOX, and every other crazy right wing celebrity/person who can get their words out.

I don't know how many people you'll find with that attitude, outside the obvious Souther States, the rest that border Mexico, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and parts of California. I'm sure the rest don't quite agree.

Because most people take what they learned from US History class, and don't look into it any further. At least that's what I've seen/been told by those who've been through the whole US education system longer than I have.

Maybe you should change the channel away from FOX and CNN, etc., and maybe not talk to people with that obvious mentality.

Indeed. It especially baffles me that so many "true blue patriots" hold the confederacy in high regard. One would expect the same people who regard protest against the Vietnam and Iraq wars as treasonous to regard a breakaway state that declared war on the US, ultimately killing over half a million people, as rather dubious. But apparently not as I see American flags next to confederate flags on pickup trucks around here.

Only in the US of A would people take a bloody civil war fought over a most terrible issue and left hundreds of thousands dead, and reenact it for entertainment.

I'm pretty sure civil war reenactments are mostly for historical purposes... You don't grab a thing of popcorn and a giant ass cup of soda and sit out on the hill watching the battle of gettysburg on your saturday night

Im always shocked at the quantity and 'quality' of people who hold such beliefs. People at my university, at my work, in the opinion section of my newspaper, on the radio, on the internet, every fucking where. Its so pervasive its almost scary. Why?
1. The belief that liberal states are crumbling stems from the militant conservative belief that such states are going bankrupt helping the "lesser people." This includes minorities and the economic poor. In addition the liberal states generally have lax restrictions on abortion for instance; conservatives believe that this "moral degradation" is ruining society and leading to moral anarchy. The Arizona point stems from the huge immigration issue and the war being waged on the supposed "illegal scum." People are not in any way held equal unless they are citizens of America, and even then they are subject to racism, prejudice, and various other forms of discrimination. Conservatives, and the American people in general, defenestrate facts as liberals attempting to brainwash them and turn America into a "Communist state." These issues are kept in consciousness by the main stream media with certain buzzwords and fear mongering. It helps the capitalists to create additional divisions to prevent people from organizing and treating each other with anything other than bitter hatred.

2. Again the main stream media propagates these beliefs. I believe Obama's father promoted African socialism and Kenyan independence and people believe that political beliefs transmit themselves genetically. The Republican party is a propaganda machine subverting facts and truth with outrageous statements and theatrical antics. They accuse him of being an antichrist as he is supposedly a Muslim dismantling the American nation founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs in their mind. The political wars keep people occupied and distracted from the real issues facing the nation: poverty, racism, and a declining America. America is slipping behind and is rapidly being overshadowed from prosperity in other parts of the world in areas such as education and healthcare. This form of cognitive dissonance allows militant followers to disregard any sort of information that challenges what they are told and what they should believe according to America at large.

3. The Confederates are glorified for their dissent from the government although not for any noble reasons obviously. Conservative ideology hold the Confederates as saying "Fuck you" to the federal government. They want no taxes, no health care, no unemployment, no rights for minorities or the poor and they see this dissent as the embodiment of their beliefs. As far as treating other humans as property, the capitalists hold this belief in high esteem. Why else are workers exploited for their labor in such a way and fought against with such hatred?

4. The conservatives hold the false belief that America is a Christian nation founded on Judeo-Christian values. No facts can ever change this ingrained mindset that plagues the population endlessly. It is promoted by main stream media and religion in a cult like fashion. The founding fathers represent dissent from oppressive government just like the Confederates above. As far as instituting slavery and wiping out the native people, this is completely ignored by cries of "USA USA USA" and "America is teh best nation on da earth." They drown out facts in a sea of jingoism, nationalism, and absurd patriotism. The slavery issue is absent from consciousness as it is justified by propaganda and America history in general.

5. They believe America is so exceptional as they view America as the last strong hold against the liberal leftist socialist communist marxist influence that is taking over the world. They value American individualism and the freedom to exploit people and hold them down while the ruling classes repeatedly screws them over. Then the lower and middle classes being to get angry and raise consciousness of the issue only to be inundated by propaganda pushed out by corporate capitalist interests. Liberals are seen as being at war with America and wishing America to become a communist state. The America people are misled by the America Dream. This is why no revolution has happened in America, as the populace believes that they will some day assume the role of the ruling class. They wish for it and worship their filthy capitalist idols who exploit them everyday, for the rest of their lives.

Hoped that helped I am around so many conservative people daily and this is what I have gathered from listening to them and watching clips of main stream media for kicks. I am highly interested in how this mindset develops and hope this provides some perspective for you.

This basically sums up America:
