Anybody heard from him/her this morning? A bunch of fucking tornadoes hit the Southeastern US overnight, including some in his/her hometown, and apparently there's been a pretty steep death toll. I'm betting power is out all over the town in question so I imagine it'd be hard to know, though...

Yeah, me too. The scariest part about this thing is that it happened in the middle of the night so even if there was an EBS warning it probably didn't do much good. Sounds like a good argument for the installation of warning sirens like the ones they just put in for tsunami activity in some communities out here.

He's probably somewhere around town. Maybe Oz even? Either that, or he can't/too busy for the internet, and tell us how the storm was.

Hope he/she is alright, we had some pretty nasty storms last night too, but nothing like in Alabama.

I'm alright, no injuries or anything. Thanks for all your kind thoughts. All the power is out in Tuscaloosa and there is no running water. The city is completely destroyed. I saw the tornado in person and it is one of the most terrifying things I've ever seen. I drove up to my parents house in Birmingham. Would have stayed, but with no running water and no electricity to boil water there wasn't much else I could do down there. Especially no point staying there with exams and school canceled. My grandparents are driving down from Huntsville because the nuclear generator was shutdown and they have no power. I'm hoping the death toll doesn't go up anymore. Sorry this is such a block of randomness. Lot of shit happened and I'm just glad my friends and family are all safe... :(

We are, too, mate. I immediately thought of you when I watched the morning news today.

Glad to be in your thoughts. The whole thing just seemed so unreal. It is hard to imagine the city I live in being destroyed. The whole reality of it hasn't quite set in. Seems one of my friends had their house and car destroyed. They rent the house so I guess it isn't a huge deal, but the car is.

I didn't hear anything about any tornado on the news, but apparently the monarchs are getting married.

It's weird to think about. Only like a month ago me and another person in SDS were laughing at an out of state member who was freaking out about a tornado warning. We were telling them how tornadoes happen all the time and it isn't a big deal. I feel like such a dumbass. I'm going to take this stuff more seriously in the future.

Yeah, the BBC has some fucked up priorities. At least I assume you were watching the BBC.

Nope, just small town local news. But I mean they're monarchs so they're more important than you.

Lol, that's true. How could we live without knowing every insignificant detail about their wedding.

I almost cried when I missed some of the details about the jello that will be served (presumably with the cake), but luckily I saw a recap.

I personally know everything about the Royal wedding. Except that is, why I should care.

Good to hear you're ok. The other resident Alabaman I know of here (southernmissfan) I haven't heard from. I'm not sure where in Alabama he lives though.

We didn't get it too bad in Atlanta, but my parents live in a more rural area that got hit hard. One of my dad's coworkers mobile home flipped over, killing their daughter. Really brings you back to reality.

Hey guys. I live in Huntsville. Today I made the roughly hour long trek to my university library, they have power and internet.

No damage around me, though areas all around got hit hard. The whole county has no power or anything. TVA got destroyed pretty bad so they're saying it still will be a few days at the earliest. A couple days ago it was over a million people without power, though some areas have been restored so it's probably less by now. All of Madison and Huntsville are still down though.

We are under a dusk to dawn curfew. City and local government pretty much isn't doing shit for anybody. Thankfully gas stations and grocery stores are opening back up. There's no way to have reliable info really, all we have is one or two radio call in shows. The local government has been doing a press conference every morning but nothing really of value. They act as if its a burden to provide us info. The sheriff in particular is an ass. The morning after the press conference was running late because the tv affiliate was covering the royal wedding! They've told us to stay off the roads. But if we need water, food, ice, gas--they say go find an open store and buy it yourself! Which means you have to be on the roads, searching throughout the city to find supplies. By time you get to a store that supposedly has some, they're out. As I said, things are starting to open back up so it's getting better. Driving with no stoplights is of course a pain. Thats part of the reason for the curfew apparently. Though there's been some rumors of looting (I don't know how credible), so wouldn't be surprised if that's another reason for it.

We don't have any way to keep informed with the news for real but last I heard it was a couple hundred deaths statewide. There are whole communities wiped off the map. Thankfully I've been able to get a hold of friends and make sure they're ok. There are a lot of people hurting, especially the elderly, poor and working class. Keep us in your thoughts guys. Hopefully I've provided a little insight into the situation. I'm pressed for time obviously but hopefully I'll be able to check back in a couple days.
