I'm not so sure if any of you here read some of the post I made in regards to Libya. I said that I was wary of supporting the rebels since I didn't know who they were or what the plan was and now with NATO all up in my suspicions were correct. I feel the same way about the situation in Syria.

I think I know the fundamentals on the situation. I might not know names and details but I agree that these people have the right to oust their government specially it's what the Syrian government has been for decades. Repressive and discriminatory against the other sect of arabs and muslims in the country.

I do believe the president Al-Assad should be ousted. The entire government needs to go specially after all the people they have killed. BUT I also ask my self if is true what some w i k i l e a k s reporst say about the US govt. funding opposition parties in Syria.. are the people protesting or the majority part of this US/Western agenda?

Are there any of these threats present within the Syrian up risings and protest? Or can we call this a genuine peoples call for reform?

What have you guys heard?

I'm actually not sure how appealing Al-Assad getting toppled would be for the west. He's a bastard who is guilty in the eyes of the USA of being allied with Hezbollah, but there's no guarantee that his ouster will result in any more of a stable situation; certainly Syria has had it's own issues with salafist activists in the past.

But then again the USA hasn't exactly been known for it's amazing foresight in it's mideast foreign policy. In any case, I definitely don't think that we'll see any kind of intervention there.

Considering that Assad's father leveled large parts of the second city in Syria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hama_massacre) for daring to protest, I'd say it's far more trustworthy. Just throwing this out.

A bit old, but Assad himself (not necessarily the rest of the government) has massive support in Syria.

The imperialist economic crisis now bankrupting entire western nation states Iceland, Greece, Ireland, Portugal and Spain, is pressing hard on the living conditions of workers in Europe and North America and further bankrupting city and state administrations sparking workers resistance movements everywhere. US Imperialism especially, and its closest allies now desperately needs to stampede the world into widespread war under any pretext while it is still the top dog militarily.

THAT IS WHAT ALL THIS IS ABOUT!

The ‘left’/liberal constituency of the in the west have not learned any lessons from Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan or Libya. Their myopic mindset has them seeing everything as separate events so they can’t fathom that it is all of a piece. Brought up on ‘goodies’ verses ‘baddies’ they are wide open to every bit of state sponsored war propaganda, yet still believing that they are making “independent”, “rational” “objective” assessments, which unsurprisingly put them squarely on the side of the dominant Imperialists.

That is why they are so ready to pass on every bit of propaganda they can find against imperialisms current or next target.

So, no surprises so far on this thread.

I know there are people who support Al Assad. There were people who supported Mubarak and Hitler... lol even Saddam. So I don't know if that argument can justify anything.

For example there was a Pro democracy Syria rally here in Los Angeles 2 weeks ago and for the first time in all these Arab rallies that happen in LA opposition showed up to demonstrate. I never seen this "during the Arab spring".

I work with a guy who's from Lebanon and he was telling me about the muslim sect. that's the entire elite in Syria.. Attawa? im sure i spelled that wrong. Anyways he said that's what the president is and all his top officials and everyone else who's not his religious sect. pretty much has 2nd class citizenship in Syria.. He would also tell me about friends he had who would just disappear for days and came back tortured.

I also sort of hate to admit this but President Hugo Chavez has voice support from Al Assad and it makes me a bit curious because as crazy as Hugo can get and some of the shit he comes out with are funny at times... the guy is a socialist, he understands imperialism and knows things. I have to admit that his resent words have raised red flags it has given me an other motive to ask questions before jumping on the "down with Al Assad" bandwagon.

More like daring to wage a campaign of open terrorism.

You make it seem like it wasn't an all-out civil war.

You seem to love siding with establishment billionaires. Are you sure you're a marxist?

And you seem to love wahhabis who've made a name for themselves by killing marxists around the world.

IIRC, your band of reactionary goons launched their civil war in the 70s with a violent "protest" over a proposed constitution that didn't require citizens to be Muslim.

I heard that there was an upsurge in gay salafis in Syria. Clearly is Assad's goons say it, it must be true.

From what I see, the demonstrations in Syria are spontanious and organic. What organization is supposedly western-backed and ready take power under the cover? Are the Syrians not more anti-western than the Libyans and would be more hesitant to call for foreign intervention? (Which would obviously cause a worse bloodbath)

Let NATO intervene in Lybia.

Let NATO intervene in Syria.

Let NATO intervene everywhere!!!!!!

Reminds me of a quote from Sun Tzu:

"He who tries to do everything accomplishes nothing." :thumbup1:
