Hey there guys.Lately,as I have been walking outside,I have noticed an ever increasing amount of garbage on the side of the street. It has gotten to the point to where I have decided that I'm am going to walk along the side of the street with a trashbag and pick up everything that was thrown away.I find it just disgusting the mount of trash people throw away to pollute our world.

I haven't before now ever considered myself a headstrong environmentalist, but I just feel the need to do something. However, I am not sure what my plan exactly is (I think my goal is to raise awareness so as to inspire militancy). I know I want to clean away the trash which is littered all over the place, but I know very little about the actual environment (as in cold hard facts about pollution and such). Nor do I know what my precise goal is. If I started a local organization to promote environmental awareness, how would I even get my foot in the door? Flyers? Starting a Facebook group and inviting a ton of people? All of the above?

I guess what I'm asking for is: Tips on organizing from people who have experience; a list of helpful materials to discuss with people (so perhaps like books, documentaries, and the sort. I think I might want to start a study/educational group) ,and any other helpful suggestions one might have.

P.S: Sorry if this is vague and unclear...I only just had this revelation like less than an hour ago.

IF you can, make yourself some stickers politely asking to keep the place clean and put it in various places while cleaning up and put it on phone booth and other obvious places.

Thanks, I will.I will also discuss this with one of my sympathetic teachers who might be able to give some advice (she being extremely pro-environment).

If you do it, make sure you get political credit for it. I use to be on this apolitical group who wanted to do things like that for our town. We did it all the time with the biggest thing being, we totaly cleaned up a whole forrest near us. We didnt said anything to anyone about it, since we thought it was cool to do it for our plesure and for the greater good. The outcome was, 4 of our actions(including the forrest cleaning) was exploited by the major in the next elections, something that lead us to destroy the group and become anarchists.

So, if you do something like that, make sure you take credit for it. If you dont, somebody else will.

Unless local attitudes change the rubbish will probably be dropped as quickly as you can pick it up again. You may start to feel like King canute.

If i felt strongly about it i'd probably first flypost some anti litter posters to get peoples attention.

Flyers to promote an environmental group? Haha. Picking up garbage is great but it just goes to sit in a dump instead of your lawn. Over consumption and waste to begin with is the problem.
