Meet: Ali Abd-al-Aziz al-Isawi

Ali Abd-al-Aziz al-Isawi (Arabic: العيساوي‎) (born c. 1966) is a Libyan politician who is a leading figure of the National Transitional Council of Libya and has been designated as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He previously served as Secretary of the General People's Committee of Libya (GPCO) for Economy, Trade and Investment, and was the youngest minister to fill such a post.

Why is he an anti-African migrant racist?

In summary, there is substantial evidence of widespread discrimination of Libya against foreigners and migrant workers coming from many different countries. Regarding Libyas two million black African migrants, the New York Times reported as follows:

It is a burden, Ali Abd Alaziz Isawi, who served for two years as the minister of economy, trade and investment, said of the army of illegal immigrants living in Libya. They are a burden on health care, they spread disease, crime. They are illegal.

Here's a great article on the Monthly Review that goes into Ali Isawi:

So, it's fascism against conservatism?

BTW, have you guys figured out yet that it's not about supporting either side in this situation? Because the only ones I see doing any glorifying of one side here are the ones dragging out every possible ridiculous puff piece for the glorious leader.

You have to give the Transitional Council one thing--they're truly representative of their constituency! The Libyan "rebels" have engaged in lynchings and other horrific attacks on Black Africans since this civil war broke out.

"Who cares if one side is going around lynching blacks and the other isn't. Let's just be neutral (i.e. de facto support for the better armed side - NATO and the rebels)."

I suppose you wouldn't have cared about the fascist Nazis overthrowing the bourgeois Weimar Republic. After all, neither side fought for the working class...

The rebels are going around lynching blacks. Gaddafi's government provides large amounts of social welfare (far more than the United States) and representative government.

Is there any evidence that the People's Congresses are functioning institutions? I think Gaddafi's government is somewhat social democratic in its social welfare character, and that the rebels are reactionary, but I've seen pretty little analysis as to its core political character. Contrast with publications and lots of documentation re. Poder Popular in Cuba.

I don't know how good it is at representing the Libyan people. But most bourgeois governments aren't very representative of their people either. In any case, the People's Congresses are certainly independent of Gaddafi, as evidenced by their rejection of Gaddafi's recent attempt to nationalize Libya's oil.

so, your argument against the TNC (who no'one here support i believe) is that one member said racist things when expressing the opinions of the gadaffi regime (who you support) when he was still in that?

Even if that had any relevance (Gaddafi is clearly the greater evil here), plenty of communists fought the Nazis without supporting the Weimar Republic. Neither was the Weimar Republic really "overthrown" by the Nazis either - they opened the door and let them in.
