Why do you visit this site? Is it for political discussion, to study history, to follow events from a left wing perspective, or just to chat it up?

I personally come because I like talking on web forums, but can't stand the relaxed policies most forum have on racism/sexism/homophobia/transphobia/sexism/etc.. I also like this site because it has a higher level of maturity than most and I like talking politics.

Political discussion is hit and miss for me, as I'm sure it is on any political forum really, but I think this is one of the better ways to interact with other left wing people, outside my own little area of living, and see what's happening outside California.

Besides actually believing in the leftist body of thought, I have something of a, uh, "scholarly" interest in the historic left. I just like to learn about subjects, pretty much anything related to the historic trajectory of communism. It just interests me. So this site helps with that.

Other than that, I also like to discuss issues, and maybe develop some connections with other leftists.

Interesting people and discussions. I learn a lot. I like to hear different points of view, ideas that clarify my own views and others that make me think about them more deeply and reconsider them. I like to question my assumptions.

And it's nice to hang around people who aren't completely deluded about the state of affairs in the world.

I come on here a lot because I have more important stuff to be doing and need a distraction. I quite like chit chat, although it's hit and miss as to whether there are good threads or rubbish ones. I like the political discussion too, although I mostly lurk because it seems as though I end up having the same debates again and again so I can't often muster the energy to write in depth walls of text.

The American Party of Labor reminds of of Maddox and his "The Best Page in the Universe." It's funny because it's online and no one really buys in to it, but when you actually come across them in person, you just feel kind of bad for them.

Of course, I could help the APL make their first actual flyer to distribute. I'd call it "Bunkers: Why you need them, why we build them." Golden.

Ismail's games, watching anarchists, marxists and other marxists at each other's throats and discuss stuff occasionally, which is fun. It is interesting to learn about other viewpoints within the revolutionary left as well, and I think I've drifted somewhat towards Anti-Revisionism of the hoxhaist variation since joining (although, I was peeking at it before, but I knew next to nothing about them. The Norwegian Hoxhaist organisation have spent the last three years building a new communist party, so they are not prominent at all here).

Must be sort of difficult trying to create a genuinely revolutionary movement in the country with the highest standard of living in the world.

Must be sort of difficult trying to create a genuinely revolutionary movement in the country with the highest standard of living in the world.
Remember that high living standards means that the working class has had more success, ie not suffered as heavy losses, than in most countries and should have more self confidence.

A bigger problem for that is that the population is small, which means that a hoxhist organisation, which is a niche organisation has a lot smaller demographic to draw members from. If 1-5000 could be interested then it would only maybe work in Oslo. While in London an incredible niche group could easily set up shop. Superspesific subcultures thrive much better in large cities.

Besides you don't have too look overly far to find some Albanians to tell you all about Hoxha. Am I mean if I suggest that the Hoxhist attempted party has little interaction with any Albanians?

As an aside I will easily admit that any workerist anarchist tradition is also in shambles in Norway, there are some attempts in Oslo but that is basically it. Radical politics doesn't work good in 50kish large towns when the class struggle is on a low ebb. Or actually when it's not on it's highest.

Edit; I like maldorors "fuck the world, and you too" attitude and I share it to some degree, but I'm to amazed at the absurdity of life to me miserable. I still laugh every time I see the stupid shape of a pineapple.

I think sometimes I actually just come on here for the stupid shitstorm threads where people have really hilariously reactionary opinions and the drama. Discussion is good though. It's good to discuss stuff with people who have different opinions. Most of the people I talk to about politics are either anarchists or people who don't care about politics.
