India plans for solar-powered UAVs to fly few days nonstop (http://alternativeenergyecogreen.blogspot.com/2011/04/india-solar-powered-uavs.html)
.fullpost { display: none; } India is currently designing solar-powered UAVs spy plane to fly for several days in the air, after development of its Stealth Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles. This unmanned solar powered aircraft, in addition to environmentally friendly, it also to cut operating costs and to help India's military intelligence.
The HALE Solar-powered UAVs will offers high-altitude, long endurance, and provide flexible 24x7 ISTAR (intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance), which would be closer orbit to the ground. It is planned to fly continuously for 15 days over a height of 30,000 feet. During the day, drones will harvest the abundant solar energy to be stored in a fuel cell that can be used to power the aircraft electric motor at night.
India will cooperate with companies in the U.S. or Europe to develop solar efficiency in relation to energy use for the completeness of the aircraft such as sensors, cameras and others. Previously UAVs, Nishant which has endurance level up to 4.5 hours also bring the electro-optical, electronic intelligence and communications intelligence payloads.
Some kind of developments in alternative energy is dangerous.:(

Don't worry, much more are ready on the drawingboard. Those just need to be materialized and some testing.

So now the so called "super smarts" of India are working on tools to kill innocent tribals???????
Sounds like evil genius to me
Don't worry when the Maoist comes to power all those "super smarts" who helped the government will find their heads missing
By the way Maoists may not have the support of those mainstream son of a *****es engineers who work for government .BUT MAOIST DO HAVE SUPPORT OF RENEGADE AND REBEL ENGINEERS , INVENTORS AND SCIENTIST :):), history has it that most of the innovative machines ever built came from renegade and rebel inventors because they thought out of the box .
By the way I know some so called "super smart" Indians who are corporate dickheads . They are all pen and paper scientist and engineers, they are so pathetic that some of them don't even understand the concept of ground (which happens to be an important part of electrical and electronics engineering) some of them are so darn pathetic that even tough they have a BE/BTech degree but have no freaking idea on how to solve noise problem in a RF circuit practically, all they know is how to push a pen.
If those dick heads are so smart why the hell Indian government spends so much money on import of foreign arms?:confused::confused:
Trust me India is a country of opposites in India genius wind up in jail and are branded as Maoists and honest lives in broken houses and the corrupt son of *****es and corporate dick heads rule the country. THE ONLY GENIUSES IN INDIA JOIN THE MAOIST THAT IS EXACTLY THE REASON MAOIST HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HOLD OFF THE SECURITY FORCES FOR SO LONG WITH INNOVATIVE LAND MINES, CRUDE ROCKETS AND IMPROVISED FIREARMS.
Long Live Revolution fu*ck the corporate dick heads and all those who support them

Comrade T.Shounku is 100% right regarding the analysis of Indian "meritocracy". The Indian education system isn't capable of producing real innovative people and it actually discourages out of the box thinking totally. I am sure that Maoists can achieve such advancements in science and technology with much less funding and effort.
Most doctorates produced by Indian educational institutes are nothing but bureaucrats and blunthead to be most "polite", nothing more than that.

I've heard that IIT education has gone to shit recently, cause rich kids take stuff like the Agarwal classes in their last years of high school and pass the entrance exam, so the IIT students are of low quality.

Actually creating aristocratic technological institutions like IIT is just a way to legalize "educational aristocracy". From the very beginning, Indian eduction system is continuing in that way. So far, English is the language of education for all such institutes and only the creamy layer of Indian society can understand English well. So, the doors are 80% closed for lower class people in this respect. And after that, special type of "coaching", that needs hefty amount of money and other social factors made those institutions just a nurturing ground of future "management" dickheads at the expense of public money.
Indian educational system doesn't encourage, but rather more try to suppress new thinking and innovative ideas.

Well said Comrade that is exactly the case !
The educational institutes in India are a breeding ground for elitism and they produce future bureaucrats and corporate dick heads. I remember once I was talking with a 3rd year Electronics Engineering student from India and I started talking with him about building some permanent prototypes using perfboards and significance of Manhattan style prototyping in RF experimentation and the soldering skills required in such types of prototype building , when suddenly the guy got angry at me and looked me in my eyes and said “ Are you insane ! I am an engineer I am not a TV repair technician , what makes you think I need to learn soldering , holding that soldering iron in my hand would ruin my reputation remember I am from an elite family, tinkering along with electronic components and playing with soldering iron is a job for lowlife, low class TV repair people , I am studying engineering to get my self an elite degree and get my self a good job, I am not studying engineering to get my hands dirty”
Obviously this corporate dick head pen pusher forgot that Engineering is a child produced from marriage of Physics and Craftsmanship and for an Electrical/Electronics Engineer the soldering iron is like a sacred symbol .
Most project building in such colleges are done by purchasing ready made pre-built kits( off course these kits are very costly and an average Indian guy would find a hole in his pocket while buying them after all this kits are all imported), these guys are so shameless that they don’t bother to build the gadgets from scratch . They shamelessly buy ready made robot and then brand the robot as “Build in this college by our students” and pose with it and take a picture with it and paste it in news paper and the next day the News paper publishes “Indian Engineering students have successfully build a Robot” these dick head reporters don’t realize that the robot was actually build in Taiwan and the so called “super smarts” future corporate dick heads only branded it as their own.

The above post by Comrade t.shonku clearly gives an example of what kind of dickheads the "elite" Indian educational institutes are producing. I am requesting everyone, who are non-Indian, to read the above post to get some idea about Indian educational system.

That's interesting, because my parents told me that when they studied engineering at NIT Calicut, they were required to do all kinds of practical exercises using hack-saws, files and soldering irons. I think with an increasing division of labour, universities are training students in areas that are becoming increasingly narrow instead of producing well-rounded students. As for the elitism, my parents didn't face any of the pressure that Indian students today are under because my grandparents on both sides weren't university educated so the university culture was all very new to them.

The attitude of the majority of students from elite institutes towards reservations should be added to this.

I am very skeptical about this so called drone built by dickheads of IIT, one chief reason is because of the simple physics of “power to weight ratio” any one who has tinkered around with electrical motor would understand that DC motors have very poor power to weight ratio that is why they are used in building land based robots and bots they are very rarely used in flying craft most flying RC craft with DC motors are nothing more than toys they can’t be called a serious RC model from any angle for that miniaturized piston driven engine , pulse jet (excellent and is now used world over by DIY guys) or turbo prop is used ( the best one) .
There is another problem here, in order to balance the power to weight ratio the engineer may have to scrap down a lot from the fuselage thus making it structurally vulnerable ( it will cripple under violent wind turbulence in Indian Tropic) , and not only that a lot of electronics for both navigational and surveillance purpose may well have to be reduced to reduce weight and to save power after all the major portion of sun’s power will be used to power the motors, what is the good then of building this impractical contraption ? Besides the drone is going to use solar power to power it’s motor what will happen during monsoon season? and what about various intensity of sunlight from time to time?, what about night time? Does the craft have some back up power ? This craft is impractical . Remember without a reliable engine a air craft is nothing than a glorified kite , and this crazy contraption will loose altitude every time without warning thus making it an useless tool for surveillance .

Well said comrade t.shonku. Until and unless very very efficient solar cells are used on those drones, they are basically useless. And efficient solar cells are costly too.
