Burkina Faso capital erupts in protest (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/apr/15/burkina-faso-capital-erupts-protest)

Soldiers have shot into the air, stolen cars and looted shops in the western part of Burkina Faso (http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/burkina-faso)'s capital as protests by military guards against unpaid housing allowances spread, witnesses said.

Mswati, you are on your own (http://www.pambazuka.org/en/category/features/72563)

Hundreds of Swazis have been arrested after they took to the streets on 12 and 13 April, to demonstrate against the monarchy. Swaziland’s King Mswati has presided over a ‘system of governance’ that protest organisers say has left the country’s ‘people divided, poor and powerless’. Sokari Ekine reports on southern Africa’s first uprising and provides updates on the situation in Djibouti, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Côte d'Ivoire and Libya.

The whole deal in Swaziland has been of mild interest to me...IIRC it was the teacher's unions in that country that instigated the whole protest movement.

edit: damn, just noticed that there was already a thread about the BF situation. Oh well.

I'd heard that the fighting in Burkina Faso was bordering on a potential military-led coup, is this not true? Granted, my knowledge of the situation has been limited. I hadn't heard of the protests in Swaziland, though - I'll have to look into that further.
