I doubt that Daily Mail readers would know what a Hobsbawm is if you hit them over the head with it, so I don't see this being of all that much significance. It's a pantomime of red-baiting, intended, like everything they print, to keep sweaty Middle Englanders contentedly enraged between breakfast and second breakfast.
