Need some info, especially how it effected the U.S. on an economic, political and social level. Basically need the main events of how it unfolded, and maybe some links to e-books or essays written by reputable people.
I'm particularly intrested what the mass public opinion in the U.S. was towards the resolution.

You will nedd a good book with statistics charts and data recording the impact on the economic social and politics at that time.
Draw and conclude data as you will from these stats in accordance with the question.
Buddy there is so much at this time, there is no clear cut definitive answer.
There is a book called the Pictorial History of World War Three. If you can't find it try looking into US and SOVIET PACTS.
SALT 1 (Strategic Arms Limitations Treaty)
SALT 2
and MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction)

ANother to include is the Political leaders at the time, be very sure that those decisions made at that time were very profound. It was that central authority within Washington that filtered its impulses throughout the establishment.
These impulses would include propaganda ie. "the red scare"
Also..establishment of centre right Political parties coherent with the C.I.A that would be fully responsible for the nature of things to come. On the other hand Peace talks would affect the establishment and leadership was made apparent through Kennedy and Johnson and Genrals.
These guys are your political motivators that set the stage in politics, around them bodies of personnel helped to develop ideas and strategy that would work with the America social thought at the time. ie. Nuclear drills, Spying tactics.
