Berlin Blockade & Currency Reform in West Germany

I have to write an essay on an event in the Cold War and have chosen the Berlin Blockade. I need more information on why it happened.

As I understand it,
The USSR, USA, Britain and France all were going to introduce a uniform currency across Germany. Then the West reneged on the deal and introduced a different currency just in West Germany. Was the Berlin Blockade in response to this or the introduction of the currency in West Berlin as well? Any other info much appreciated.
