Arizona GOP to Obama: Show Us Your Circumcision Certificate
By Tim Murphy
April 15, 2011

Thinking of running for president, but cant find a copy of your long-form birth certificate? No problem, say Arizona GOPers. Just be prepared to provide a description of your penis.

The states birther bill, which had until recently been sidelined, cruised through the state Senate on a 20-to-9 party line vote Wednesday and was passed by the state House late Thursday. Its now awaiting the signature of Arizonas Republican Governor Jan Brewer. The bill, resurrected late last month with some minor changes, requires presidential candidates to provide a valid long-form birth certificate before they can appear on the ballot in Arizona. Because not all states even produce such records anymore, the bill allows prospective candidates to provide any two of the following documents in lieu of a long-form birth certificate: an early census record, a signed post-partum medical record, a hospital birth record (also known as a certificate of live birth), or a baptismal or circumcision certificate.

Thats right: Arizona Republicans want you to provide proof that youve been circumcised; it makes the boxers and briefs question look downright prudish. But a warning for overzealous candidates: As the Phoenix New Times helpfully notes, Pulling out your penis in front of election officials, however, will not prove citizenshipand, in the worst case scenario, could get [you] labeled a sex offender. Rules to live by.

As we first reported in January, Arizonas bill was inspired by conservative activists who believe President Obama is not an American citizen by birth (for the millionth time: he is). To that end, potential GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump, who recently jumped on the birther bandwagon, called Arizona legislators this week to voice his support for the measure, and invited the bills supporters to a meeting at his Manhattan office. More than a dozen states have now considered legislation to require presidential candidates to verify their citizenship, but Arizonas bill is the first to clear a state legislature. If enacted, Democrats say the law would face a legal challenge.

Republicans talk a lot about the need to make tough, painful cuts. We just didnt know this is what they had in mind.

Why is it so important where the fuck someone was born? orite Nativists.

And secondly, all non-medical circumcision should be criminalised.

I could see this being used as a pretext to not count Arizona's electors.

No you don't understand there a a lot and I reiterate a lot of people who legitimately believe this crap. And they think that they have evidence and they care:cursing:.

I haven't been circumcised. I guess I'm Kenyan.

But seriously, we all laugh at the GOP for accusing Obama of being a Muslim Kenyan, but why would/should it matter if he's a Muslim Kenyan?

Actually, it's more than that. The U.S. Constitution requires a President to be a native-born citizen. This was originally put in the document to prevent a pro-British president taking office and handing the U.S. back to the Crown. It's only recently that it's become a cudgel in the hands of the reactionary right. Indeed, a few years ago, both Republicans and Democrats were talking about eliminating the provision so that they could run non-natives who were relatively popular governors (Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jennifer Granholm, respectively).

Like Florida in 2000?

The Dems will roll over for this. After all, if they can roll over for massive disenfranchisement, ballot fraud and the mini-riot, they can roll over for anything. They'd rather see a corporatist like Palin, Trump, Gingrich, etc., come to power through anti-democratic means than run the risk of letting a movement in defense of democratic rights get "out of control" -- just like they did 11 years ago.

you have got to love the hypocracy of provision of nativity in self*-liberated colonies...

* on a slightly urelated issue....I consider WWII a concelation of the life boon the US owes "us" for paying for your freedom. You are welcome.

Brewer Vetoes Birther Bill (http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2011/04/18/brewer-vetoes-birther-bill)

It must be Opposite Day in the southwest, because Arizona governor Jan Brewer smartly vetoed two bills today (http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/news/politics/state_politics/brewer-vetoes-birther-bill-guns-on-campus-4-18-2011). The first one would have allowed guns on college campuses, and the second was the dumb-ass birther bill (http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2011/04/13/arizona-senate-passes-birther-bill):

As for her decision to veto this bill, Gov. Brewer said in part: "I never imagined being presented with a bill that could require candidates for President of the greatest and most powerful nation on earth to submit their 'early baptismal or circumcision certificates'… this is a bridge too far. This measure creates significant new problems while failing to do anything constructive for Arizona."
Um...yay, Governor Brewer?

Ron Gould defended the campus proposal...and he usually brings a gun to the parliamentary meetings. He stated that students are now in danger of being exposes to armed robbery....right....

But Jan Brewer....thats a horrible, horrible person...

* illegals who have kids --> kids should be thown out.
* there is the whole father fought nazi's and died from that controversy
* cut funds for organ transplants from medicaid.
* porposed cuts to medicaid which would lead to 280.000 arizonans to loose medical coverage completely.
* proposed to fine the obese and smokers when they get ill
* anti gay adoption bills

So its about fucking time she did something half-decent.

The Constitutions states that any person running for the US Presidency must be born in this country. That's why. You may not agree with it but the Founders did not want someone with foreign ties leading the country.

Though the Birther shit is dumb fuckery.

Can't we just give Arizona back to Mexico? It'd solve so many damn things.

I don't think Arizona wants to be annexed into a drug-infested hell-hole so no.

I'm not unaware of this, but the constitution should be torn up and burned as the piece of racist toilet paper it is.

Hello OI? Arizona isn't already that, anyway?
