I'm just sitting here watching the most important debate for this election right now and OMG it is out of control! Arnold just got told by arriana huffington  but besides low blows from each other, this crap. What do you all think? Bustamante is probably gonna win this election.

Maybe this should be in chit chat?

It was quite entertaining

I missed the first 30 mins or so. I'll have to watch the re-run.

I thought Camejo said some good things. McClintock came out as a typical conservative republican. Arriana spoke well, as usual. Bustamante is a crook. Arnold and his hummer :P what an ass!

"I want clean air, clean water and a clean environment," the Terminator star said at a campaign appearance in Carpinteria, about 85 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

Hmmmmm......

Yeah... Arnold's "environmentalism" is a joke considering he owns what is described as a "fleet" of Hummers. He is credited with making the civilian version popular in this country. Hey, it's just the SUV with the worst gas mileage--what eight miles to a gallon in the city and ten on the highway?

C'mon is that all there is to say? This is a very important subject ( ). I realized just how goofy looking Tom MCClintock really is in his two minute closing argument. He has the laziest eye I have ever seen in my life. I just found that hialarious.
It was so frustrating at school today when all my peers were all saying how they want Arnold to win. Just because he's the terminator <_<

I watched some outakes of it, not the whole thing and I kind of wished I had.

From what I got out of it, my opinion of Arianna has changed a lot. It takes a lot of courage to flat out say, "How are you going to bring buisness and jobs to California? Give them everything they want, let them get away with anything." Then she went on to add, "The budget problem isn't that we need to cut more, we need to collect more from all the people that use tricky accounting practices and offshore accounts to avoid being taxed."

I respect those comments. When you put those against things I heard from Arnold which sound just like stupid catch phrases, (just like the characters he plays in movies 2 dimensional) "In California we have a 3 strikes you are out rule, and you have been given 3 strikes and you are out." I mean come on.

Sadly people like stupid catch phrase slogans like that. They even applaud it like it was really super clever.

It was like any other debate, anytime somebody started to say something that was headed in the right direction, they got cut off by the other people.

To me it sounded like a debate between felicia nd Urban Rubble. It began as a somewhat rational argument and was quickly dominated by personal attacks, ignorant remarks, and rhetoric.

I didn't catch the whole thing, so I have no idea how far it degenerated to. But seeing just how fucked up, and I use that term loosely because I think the whole election thing is beyond that point. I can only imagine how bad it got.

It was later reported in news channels that governor Davis seems to be ahead, since the debate yesterday showed that the other candidates are nearly as competent as the current governor. I've been predicting that Davis would beat the recall since day 1! HA! I bet i'm gonna be right!

The best candidates out in the field are clearly Arianna and Peter Camejo (of the Green Party).

Unfortunately, a lot of voters do not (or cannot) put a lot of effort into thinking before they vote. They like to have these neatly sorted soundbites on one or two issues important to them. The media is all too happy to oblige. A promising turn of events has shown that Arnold is slipping in the polls--he was banking on name recognition and personality, and the voters have decided that is not enough to pick their governor by. We won't have a Gov. Terminator after all... good news.

It looks like a toycar.

If "Arnie" really would get elected, it would be the eminant proof that US democracy is as real as Avril the anarchist :P

yeah, Californians are dumb. Most people around here want gustamante to win only because he is latino. Well, Im one too but it still dont mean the guy should win. Gotta give him credit for being in M.E.Ch.A. although he was attacked for it (stupid media calling M.E.Ch.A. an extremist radical group who only wants Mexican Supremacy.

I didnt watch the whole thing, but did they by anychance bring up the immgranst rights group that started here in Cochella and is now going up to DC?

I think the USs fuel prices are fucking ridiculous. Arnie has every right to go around in a hummer so long as people charge 27p for a litre. Thats like a third of the price of Europe.

If you want to elect a Latino governor, you can always vote for the Green Party's Peter Camejo. Bustamante is in favor of executing minors--I believe even as young as 14 or 15... he is sucked into that whole "show-how-tough-you-are-by-treating-criminals-like-shit" game that reactionary politicians like to play.

Oh yeah! I almost forgot abought him saying that he's for kids having the death penalty  That's bullshit.

bluerev002, you're from cochella?

I think Peter Camejo is the only decent candidate. I was reading through the candidate statements that they sent out to registered voters and OMG, this thing is sad!

HMMM it's kinda weird that Tom MCclintock and the terminator didn't enter a statement. I'm sure it wasn't because they didn't have the money it took to put in the booklet.

But yeah, we have some other pretty fucked up candidates. Like this one guy only wrote " I breathe" and some other guy I've never heard of until reading through this bookltet named Trek Thunder Kelly wrote, "I will legalize drugs, gambling and prostitution so they may be taxed and regulated......". We have some fucked up candidates.

Fat Free Milk,

I agree that Camejo seems to be the best candidate. What do you think of Arianna Huffington? She is an unusual character--formerly a far-right Republican, now a left-of-the-Democratic Party reformer. She was born in Greece, and there are not very many Americans who can say that.

I am not surprised by your mention that the major Republicans in the race declined to make a political statement in this voters' guide you mention. Arnold, I know, has been running on name recognition and his charisma... trying to avoid politics altogether! Repubs do not like to run issue-oriented campaigns, as they cannot compete with part-time populists like the Dems.

I don't know what to think of Arriana Huffington. I don't understand how she was a republican an then switched to being a liberal independant or whatever. The fact that she's from Greece doesn't really make a difference though. I guess she's cool cus she's the only one of the candidates to very openly criticize Bush. But she seems kind of two faced and that really shows alot about a persons character.

Are they covering this thing nation wide or something? You're screen name gave it away :D I guess I shouldn't be surprised. This is a very historic event after all

I only brought up her Greek background because it was unusual. It does not have a damned thing to do with how I view her politically. I may not have phrased that too nicely in my last post.

She really has been a vocal opponent of corporatism. I appreciate that she is so media savvy as to actually get on national TV while being to the left of the Democratic Party. I think I will read one of her books before the end of the year--the last several have sounded very interesting.
