I still do it, from time to time. But, I always preferred playing Call of Cthulhu.

I still play D&D (and GURPS, Vampire: the Masquerade/Requiem, Rogue Trader, Dark Heresy, Cyberpunk2020, Shadowrun, FUDGE, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and a whole host of others) it's a fucking awesome hobby. It's also one that requires you to have friends, preferably lots of them, which I understand is something mutually exclusive with being "really really sad."

:thumbup1: wow never knew anyone still played Rogue Trader Ah. I meant the recently released 40K roleplaying game, not the original wargame (I do have a copy of the rulebook and I have played it in the past but I don't currently play).

I started with AD&D 2e and OD&D Rules Cyclopedia. Right now I'm running a semi-frequent game for a few friends with Labyrinth Lord (OD&D Basic/Expert set).

I stopped playing D&D. My roommate bought RuneBound but the replayability of it sucks. I mainly play Stratego which is not really the same.

You gave me a retro shock there

I started with 3.5 D&D, but the party split after 3 of the 5 we were started playing with another group who preferred 4th edition. Major sadface. I have played some 40k, though I could never get into the whole modeling half of it. I occasionally play some pbp, and I have recently discovered GURPS, it's rather good.

D&D, AD&D, several whitewolf games (Vampire, Mage, Changeling), several modern and future setting roleplaying games...I forgot the names (one after WWIII and one spy like game).
I LARP-ed.

Always wanted to get into RPGs, but none of my friends know how to play.

I sat in on a game of D&D once. Can't say I really enjoyed it, but then again, I was stoned and my mind wandered while the guys played.

My good friend/internet fiance tried playing D&D with me over skype, but that was a failure, lol. That's about all my experience with it, lol.

I've played D&D, AD&D, Robotech, Heroes Unlimited, Rifts, D20, Shadowrun and a couple other I don't even remember any more. These days, it's mainly board and card games: Settlers of Catan, Arkham (a Call of Cthulhu board game) and, most recently, the Munchkin series (regular w/expansions, Munchkin Fu, Munchkin: Impossible, Munchkin Cthulhu and "The Good, the Bad and the Munchkin"). We have a regular Friday-night Game Night.

I've played a lot of it, though I always preferred old-school AD&D/D&D to the modern editions. I've played original 1974 D&D, Basic/Expert, AD&D 1 and 2, and 3rd edition. I've also played a handful of other games, like Call of Cthulhu, Changeling, Rifts, Shadowrun, Marvel Super Heroes, GURPS, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Unknown Armies, 7th Sea, and a couple of others.

I like how this thread is right next to the one where people moan about not having many girls in chit chat.

Because Chit Chat is really a "sausage fest" and overtly male dominated.

Yeah, I like Call of Cthulhu too, as a big mythos fan, though I do not play it much. Used to play roleplaying games like D&D when younger.

The anarchist scene in Raleigh was (is?) full of queer geeks. At parties folks would alternate between playing rounds of Magic, cracking D&D jokes, singing old union songs, and deconstructing gender. Like most things, it wasn't nearly as awesome in practice as it sounds.

I'm kinda embarrassed to admit it, but I've probably played every version of it between the original D&D up through 3.0 under most rules sets, including the D&D Revised and Cyclopaedia. Played a number of the expansions as well, but my favorites were always Dragonlance and Ravenloft. Outside of that, I only just flirted with MechWarrior a bit when I was like 12 - 13.

As an aside, Vin Diesel used to play D&D... Dunno if he still does.
