China doesn't want to go back to the future or the past: The Chinese government has banned any depiction of time travel in TV shows and films because the plot element "disrespects history."

In a statement on March 31, China's State Administration for Radio, Film & Television said that fictional time-traveling in programs "casually make up myths, have monstrous and weird plots, use absurd tactics, and even promote feudalism, superstition, fatalism and reincarnation."

Interestingly there was (and maybe still is) a very popular Chinese TV series called "Heroes of China". The idea is that the CCP sends agents back in time to intervene in important nodal points in Chinese history. The show doesn't explore class struggle so much as intrigue in anything from the Tang Dynasty to the Second World War. The show was very popular in the 90s.

I think banning Doctor Who was the point. After all, not many time travel shows/movies depict reincarnation that much. Maybe they're mad at Britan?

When I first saw this thread, I though it was about China banning research into actual time travel as it might threaten their revolution (then) or power (now).
