View Full Version : Any new genres?

Like everything I hear is either pop music with 90's oontz oontz or the same stupid rap music that's like trance+breakbeat or the 1,000,000th trend of punk, or indie that is a pink floyd remake/really bad rock music/bad 80s disco-new wave stuff, or dubstep that has gone off into intolerable land. I don't listen to country but it seems like it's just punk for people outside the rust belt + twangy guitars and a fiddle in there somewhere.

Is there anything new and cool being made or is everything just bad and old?

Look into foreign bands.

Maybe I'll start my own band. That'll teach them.

Look into foreign bands. I second this call. Western music genres start out cool and turn into unoriginal, repetitive degenerate piece of shit because that's profitable (hip hop)

This thread reminds me of this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCopQAVxeU0 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCopQAVxeU0)

but thing is new genres almost always come from something that already exists. So instead of old genres degenerating due to commercialism something gets created by changing an old genre slightly or fusing it with something else.

I was impressed when New Rave started out in 2005/6 but it turned out to be utterly shit

Then you've got bands like Swahili Blonde John Frusciante's band after he left the Chili Peppers. Which is a different kind of sound mixing lots of different styles of music.

Then you've got NASA who does hip hop but then this collaboration is quite different in my opinion. (John Frusciante again) :p

People are creating different sounds and experimenting but if you're looking for a musical revolution like the beginning of blues and jazz or to a much lesser extent electronic music I think that'll only come from technological advances or a massive change in society.

Lol nu-rave is so bad. Also don't do that thing where you make the youtube video a link also because then clicking it opens a new window and it's really annoying.

Lol nu-rave is so bad.It was just an example of different types of music being created I wasn't saying it was good.

Oh like Foals? I mean like with them and Miike Snow and all those euro-indie it's like the non-"BASS DROP WAHWAHWAHWAHWAHWAHWAHWAH" dubstep remix is always better. Otherwise it's just American GOTTA TAKE MY RITALIN indie.

Plus the only cool parts sound like trance from 5 years ago when Tiesto pretended he was an alien spaceship...

To be fair, the music that Houria Aichi plays is Algerian folk music, so not really news. Real folk music is still as good in Europe, it just doesn't get much airplay.

Though not exactly a new genre, they're quite different from most hip-hop. They kind of combine rock with rap but not to the extreme of limp biskit. Also they're communists. This songs about lazy Americans but it was the best one I could find on youtube.

Post-Rock is a relatively new genre and fucking love it. Most songs stretch out past 10 minutes but this one is around four but still awesome.

I don't know if I'd call post-rock new. It's been happening since the mid-90s, at least. But yeah, it's popularity has sky-rocketed the past 5-6 years.

You know what, math rock is pretty alright, though they use guitars where electronic composition would do the trick to show off how good they are.
