'Sup! So yeah, I was thinking about what to do earlier this evening and figured out, "Hey, why did I never look for a leftist forum before?" Cue a Google search, and here I am. That wasn't hard.
Now to introduce myself, as far as I can. I'm from Hungary. Pretty bad breeding ground for communism, I must say. This country is heaven for Nazis, as my fellow countrymen, still unable to get over the treaty of Trianon back in 1920 (you know, the part where we lost much of our country), have an unfortunate tendency to be hateful nationalist scum, pretty much exhibiting everything what the left doesn't stand for. Not to mention our current excuse for a prime minister - a despot with a Napoleon complex who really just openly steals from the poor and gives to the rich, and still manages to cover it all up with populistic preaching. And more than 50% of voters actually re-elected him, after 4 years of stealing our taxes back in the 1998-2002 period. What can I say, we're morons too.
Whatever the case is, here I am. I'm in my 18th year and am pretty much a fresh convert - only for half a year have I been identifying myself as a commie (though I likely had such ideas before as well). Hopefully I've come to a great place for discussions. (As for what kind of a leftist I am... I don't really like identifying myself with any of the mainstream communist ideologies but if I think about it, simple old Marxism-Leninism is what's probably the closest to me.)
Erm, yeah. Hopefully it wasn't a complete waste of time for you all to read this. Anything else I should share with you guys?

Hello, Quite unfortunate for your country, but the leaders of my country the U.S. are hardly any different. Closed minded individuals with the intent on spreading ignorance because the less we know or acknowledge the less we question or realize the corruption laid before us. It's the oldest story in the book, sadly enough nations just repeat the process.:(

I know an American who went to Hungary. He says a lot of people are starting to support the fascistic Jobbik party simply due to the corruption.

Welcome comrade, glad to know we have more people from the post-socialist world.

Unfortunate to hear comrade,iv been to Hungary last summer, and i must say i see why you are concerned,a lot of nationalist groups are on the rise, and communism is regarded as the greatest evil in the history of man, while the fascist kvisling heritage of fascist Hungary is glorified.

Already done... I think.

A little info on the current situation of the left in Hungary?

Well, while we're here, I may as well describe the whole political situation in Hungary, to those who are interested.
The "conservatives" (bandits without any ideology, in truth), meaning the Fidesz party, have achieved a 2/3 majority during the last elections, which gives them absolute power. In fact, theoretically they could restore the kingdom right now if they wanted.
Then there's the Jobbik, the manifestation of nazism in the parliament, with whom the Fidesz works together to maintain the illusion of democracy and compromise to avoid many open revolts. They organise paramilitary patrols, terrorising the Gypsy population, and in fact, their slogans revolve around "Gypsy crime". Their politicians often wear (parts of) the suit of the banned Hungarian Guard (another group of paramilitaries banned during the last government's time in office) in the parliament, and face no repercussions for doing so. For having no practical power in the parliament, they are pretty influential.
The democratic left consists of the MSZP (Hungarian Socialist Party), who were governing Hungary from 2002-2010. They have gone through two prime ministers during that era, the first of which turned out to be a secret agent, and thus had to resign in favor of the second, who admitted to "stealing, swindling and lying" during a secret party conference, which then somehow ended up getting leaked. As you can see, they're the worst of socialists, although compared to what we have now they did their job very well. The party itself is pretty fragmented, for there are several smaller platforms who cannot come to agreement with the mainstream socialists.
Finally we have a liberal party, the LMP, who have achieved very few votes and really do nothing important. As it stands now, Fidesz is enjoying their power over the country and taxes/steals from the poor in order to make sure their inner circle prospers. Their biggest political opponent is the MSZP, who they try to "amortise" (this is the popular term nowadays for what they're doing) by accusing their politicians of various crimes. Whether these are true, I don't know. I wouldn't even be surprised if they were. Fidesz and Jobbik are working together right now, to seem legitimate in the eyes of the people, though the government will probably have to start repressing Jobbik soon because the nazi party is starting to become a bit too popular at the expense of Fidesz.
To sum it all up, the left is in a complete disarray, and a fine example of the warped form of socialism that is created in a capitalist system. (Though I would actually say that open nazism is more of a threat here than western capitalism.) There are no other leftist organisations, parties or anything like that - due to the political right's terror and demonising of the left, no true communist/revolutionary/worker's organisation could take root here right now.
