Lmao. Stumbled across this on IMDb, and didn't have a clue what to think. Still don't. I acknowledge this thread being an exercise in futility, but I still thought the title alone was worth posting about. Let alone it being a 'novel' that less than two years after being released is going to be a major studio film.

The premise, as ridiculous and offensive as it is makes me wonder if, indeed, Twlight wasn't so bad. I will never say that with any amount of certainty, yet I still wonder..

It's actually part of a whole wave of similar titles, spurred by the success of Pride & Prejudice & Zombies; ironic (in that hipster, we-don't-really-understand-irony sort of way) splicings of historical fiction and historical literature with pulp action fiction. I understand that AL:VH is one of the better ones, although I don't know if that means very much.

Though I suppose it must have a bit of subversive value,.
What with mocking a historical figure and all that.

Yea, but alls Jesus has had done is had a shitton of people killed in his name. At least Lincoln had some positive contributions to history.

It just irks me to know that someone would willingly ignore all humane impulses to make a cheap buck, and try to belittle Lincoln's work to forward racial equality by saying he only wanted to free the slaves because he didn't want them to be vampire food. I could be wrong, but from various summaries that's what the 'novel' did. It doesn't surprise me that someone would do this, just as I said it irks me.

Oh, I geddit now. Because you know, I couldn't have possibly understood that on my own. It's not that I choose to ignore the joke because I find the subtext itself offensive. It's just that I was too stupid to get the joke in the first place. No, it must be that there is nothing offensive about insinuating slavery was only a problem because vampires were taking advantage of the system; it must be that I just didn't get it. :crying:

Thank you for clearing that up. Whatever would I do without you, Revleft?

Twist your bollocks tighter and tighter until they burst into a bloody, ragged mess, one presumes.

I mean, really, since when did a woolly liberal concept like "offensiveness" have any currency on the far left? Problematic content, surely, is that which reproduces systems of oppression, rather than that which is simply crass and stupid.
